Rainbow dynamite chalice

I just got myself one of these. I have been looking around for a couple months now, trying to find one that wasn’t absurdly expensive, and found this one for just 60 bucks.
(Using a filter cause my iPad can’t handle the blue)

My only question is if they’ll be fine in the sand bed and if they’ll just grow over the sand or if I should move it to a frag plate. Also does it send out sweeper tentacles? I’ll have to move it if it does.

I don’t put chalices on the sand as they irritate the chalice and can end up killing parts off of it if the sand sits too long.

I prefer to get flat dry rock and use those for “plates”.

Also do you have anything growing on the sand? It looks like dinos or cyano?

Yeah, pretty sure it’s cyano, but I’m working on it right now with manual removal. I’ll pick up some frag plates next time I visit my lfs.

Agree. You could raise it up on a small rock to elevate an inch or so over the sandbed. These do like to encrust though so having something to spread to will grow it faster.

Cyano can smother a a chalice pretty fast, make sure to blow it off daily.

Not sure what your nutrients are like, but make sure those aren’t bottomed out causing the cyano.

It’s been a long time since I’ve dealt with cyano, but getting nutrients to measurable and stable level as well as reducing my light period by a couple hours helped out usually. I also don’t ever run a lot of whites.

Here is a picture of how I use rocks instead of plates. I suppose it is a preference thing though :)

I glue mine on large frag disks and keep them on sandbed, never had an issue and they are pretty much all touching now

I’m in Canada lol, so it’s more like 3 or 4 cents in American dollars. My lfs did a Boxing Day sale.

I’d still blow your corals off daily to make sure they don’t get smothered.

As far as glass - yes that could work. It would be similar to bare bottom. But if you plan on fragging it in the future (I would), then putting it on a frag disk or rock would be best.

I was told chalice's will sting each other when close, have you found that to not be an issue? Those 3 are beautiful together.
