Hi,
I’m trying to figure out what’s causing a random brown algae bloom (perhaps diatom bloom)..
My tank is 5 months old, about 1 month into it I had the standard new tank diatom bloom. But then it went away and didn’t come back until this week where it seems to be growing at insane speeds..
2 nights from clear glass to completely brown from bottom to top!

last week I added an air pump directly into the tank because I was having a PH issue, just barely keeping it at 7.8.
After several days of the air pump going it bumped it up to 8-8.2.
I also raised the tank temperature from 78 to 80.5. Because I was advised to do so.. and I added new rock to the tank a few weeks back which caused major issues for a couple days. But then everything was fine..

can over oxygenating a tank cause this?
Or warmer temps?

my lights are on a lot, but it never caused this algea bloom.
And I don’t wanna turn off the lights because I’m told it may make things worse, and Im finally getting coralline algea and green algae growing which my fish are loving!

75g
Fish only

Ammonia not readable because of Cupramine at 0.5.
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 30ish
PH 8-8.2
Temp 80.5

Lights are in for 6 hours at full day brightness, but it gradually brightens for a few hours before and after..
So it’s technically on for 12 hours which sounds like a lot, but several of those hours it’s at a dim blue

that might be your issue since your basically trusting them that the water is good.
when my RO/DI filter is going bad or is bad ,I usually get a brown film on glass and other items in tank.
This might be an option to investigate .

Just a thought or option to look into, best to get a RO/DI of your own then you dont have to worry or travel to get water anymore
