Anemone

OK, consensus is that the anemone is a small LTA (Macrodactyla doreensis). Same name Petco gave it. That type is fine in a display and is, in fact, the natural host for one of my favorite clown types, pink skunks. It's too small for clowns now (only about 2" across), but assuming it survives and grows, that may be in the plan.

I've moved it to the display at a sand/rock interface that they like. I hope it stays where I put it. I'll take a video a bit later after the water clears since digging in the sand stirred up some fines.

FWIW, the goniopora is so small that I forgot it was nearby and nearly buried it moving sand around. lol

AFR Dosing

I put AFR on the BRS doser for a test run, but its not on a timer yet. Need to fill up the tubing lines, check dosing rate, etc.

It is dosed into the return Brute. In order to keep the dosing line from potentially clogging from deposits, I took an old piece of curved green hard tubing ( maybe from a filter I won at a MACNA decades ago), and cut it to about 2 inches of curved length. I pushed both the AFR dosing tubing and the ATO tubing end into one end, and the other end faces down toward the water in the return Brute.
Thus, both AFR and fresh water will flush through it, and there is no chance of them siphoning into each other since the end is open and drains rapidly, being larger in diameter than either delivery tubing. While the BRS doser would presumably not allow siphoning, the Tunze ATO Osmolator would (I think). So I'm just minimizing the chance of any problems. :)

I am having a hard time envisioning this would you mind sending a pic? I still as of yet have not automated afr. I have all the bits and pieces to do it just lazy I guess. I do see the build up on my dosing cup if I dont rinse it out so I know it will clog the line eventually.

I don’t do the Y anymore because I changed from a dosing pump top off to Tunze ATO and it siphons.

I cannot see how your setup will prevent the clogging of the tip. Though I have not had a big issue with AFR, I just clean out the tip every month or two with a toothpick

Well, I’ve only run it for one day, so I cannot make any claims it does work, but the rationale is that when the AFR stops flowing, and could then be subject to evaporation that might clog the open end, ATO water will come along pretty quickly and flush it all out.

I cannot see there being significant evaporation up inside the curved tube at the delivery tubing ends. It’s well back from the opening, and is in a fairly humid environment to begin with (inside a closed brute can that has some fresh air flowing through).

I avoided the Y idea for the same reason:possible siphoning.

I use a graduated cylinder its marked in 10ml increments up to 50ml its plastic and a 10ml syringe to dose afr. If I dont rinse them out every other time at least there is a crust that forms. I have let it go for a week or two and I think that would clog a dosing line. Obviously I dont keep this in an environment as humid as just above the sump which may make a difference.

No, not underwater. The uv are in the brute, so at some point I’ll be opening it back up to remove them, and can check the tips them. :)

Filtration

I removed and cleaned the marineland mechanical filter designed to help with dinos. Some stuff, especially for 24 h, but not crazy dirty. The water does have fewer visible particles in it, for better or worse. :)

Wow would have expected more. I’d just keep moving to DT or whichever bin you’re scrubbing clean. I’m time it will do wonders.
