Hey guys ive been looking around for led lighting options and I like the ai sol a lot but the only thing I dont like about it is the price so i found this http://www.rapidled.com/8-x-solderless-triple-puck-kit-with-dimmable-drivers/ and I think this is a great substitute I have email rapid led about the differenece between the two and they said the only real difference is the lighting storm and cloud cover so the kit being half the price of the sol im thinking about getting these instead so tell me what you think about them

For one, I would not use that color combination. Keep a 2:4:1 ratio of neutral white to royal blue to cool blue, otherwise your fixture will lack serious color rendition. Use XT-E for NW and RB and XP-E only for cool blue, or use Luxeon Rebel ES for all of them. The XP-G and XP-E are old LEDs that are outclassed by newer LEDs, which are usually also in lower price points as well, as their production efficiency rises.

Are you telling me that you could possibly build this whole setup top to bottom mimicking the ai look with more powerful leds for less?

Looks are fine, the light they put out sucks. Compare any of the current premade fixtures to any based on a neutral white and you'll see a big difference in how it looks. The light itself is not cold and anemic, even with much more blue to offset the lower color temperature of the neutral white LEDs, and the colors of your corals will be more pronounced, particularly when it comes to reds, and your fluorescent colors will also be more excited.

I guess classic muscle cars are out of date since they don't have GPS and efficient MPG. The RapidLED's cree LEDs work just fine and grow coral great. They are the same used in AI and Radion (except the cool whites). LEDs will continue to advance (more spectrum, more efficient) and the last technology will always cost a premium. If the RapidLED kit fits your needs currently, then you have nothing to worry about. I use RapidLED solderless kits and my corals have great color and growth. GL.
