My return pump (blue marine reefpower 60) is brand new running for only 1.5 weeks now. A few days ago it started random rattling in random intervals. I took it out cleaned it what was te clean and placed it back. The rattling stopped till yesterday it came back.
Is this normal should I go to my LFS?

I find the reefpower kinda noisy is there an alternative return pump that is more silent? All brands say they are silent but I know a lot isn’t true.

Not sure what’s causing the rattling. Probably a defective product.

I have an aqueon aq2500 that’s pretty quiet and pushes 515 gph w/o factoring in head. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s not adjustable.

If I upload a video of the sound will that help?
515 gph is a bit overkill for my 16g tank lol. But aqueon is a good brand?

Have you checked to make sure that none of the plumbing is touching anything and causing the rattle? A pipe just barely touching the edge of the sump or part of the stand can make a lot of noise and sound like it's the pump itself

Yes I have I also have a silicon mat around and under the pump against the vibration noise

Seems to be a good pump for the 4 months I had it lol. I got it at my lps for around $70. I’m not sure if aqueon makes any smaller pumps or not.

Sounds like it's probably the pump then. I have a couple eheim pumps I got from bulk reef supply about a year ago and haven't had any issues with them. They are both an eheim compacton 2100 and they're rated for 555gph, I really like them myself and they are adjustable

why not the innovative marine aqua gadget DC pumps, i have one and its dead silent and controllable, i think you can get one that will fit your tank for 90 bucks online

Is controllable really important?
