So I’ve been thinking, if a Nem looks unhappy, but isn’t moving itself, would you say it’s likely a water parameter issue instead of a flow or lighting issue? Just curious what your thoughts would be with more experience.

How long has the system been running? Most recommend to wait a 8-10 months before one should be considered as they can be sensitive to the instability associated with a young tank.

This “system” is about 6 months old but it’s comprised entirely of rock/sand and media from a larger system that’s been running for over a decade.

I’m still curious why you think it looks “unhappy”.

Just the fact that it was contracted for a few days to about 1/4 of the size it had previously been. But also I was probably being a helicopter anemone parent because it’s been extended much more over the past few days.

Yes, anemones will close up and shrink for no apparent reason.

The best thing for you to do is keep stable water parameters, and it will open and puff back up!

Reminds me of when I got my first leather coral and was Very concerned when it first contracted for a few days prior to shedding.

Sometimes I’m just looking at my tanks too much lol

Yes, I am a victim of that to.

I am such a big over thinker.

Sometimes in this hobby, we just have to let things play out, and leave them alone. Obviously this is not the case if you see disease, or infection.

Animals will die, it's just part of a healthy ecosystem.
