That’s interesting. What is that acid called and what’s the value in terms of specifity?
I use Hanna Instruments HI70464 which is 1N Hydrochloric Acid.

You dilute 1 part of that product to 4 parts RODI which results in a solution equivalent to the OEM Concentrate.
You then dilute the concentrate 1+9 with RODI to make the 0.02N strength solution for the tester

I've been using that for over 6 months, and I pump the waste back into the tank as it is essentially harmless.

Do you mean to day,
1 part of 0.1n mixed with 4 parts of RODI water to make an OEM solution

then
1 part of the solution made above mixed with 9 parts of RODI make the trsting fluid?
Is that correct or am I getting it wrong? (I’m a bit challenged in chemistry)

You start with the 1.0N HCl not 0.1N.

Hanna also sell a 0.1N solution for the same price, which you could use to avoid the first dilution.
You need to be very accurate if you are starting with 1.0N. I use volumetric flasks rather than scales.

I use abc reagents and have observed no noticeable differences other than the calibration solution being off in my case.

Thank you. Can you help me with the Hanna device/serial number of the solution so I don’t mess up my order. Thanks in advance.
so with the 0.1N, 1 part mixed with 9 parts of RODI water will make the testing fluid? And it would be safe to drain the post test fluid back into the tank?

Hi, with the 0.1N HCl you mix 1 part with 4 parts of RODI water. A 1 litre bottle of 0.1N will make 5 litres of testing fluid.

The Hanna part number is:

Hydrochloric Acid 0.1N, 1L - HI70463

Yes, it is safe to pump back into the tank.

Have you ever added the abc to the trident solution? Or do you just fill the bottle when it’s empty?

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
