Real deal Purple Monster?

I dont think its a Tyree purple monster. Its probaby their own purple monster, since anyone can name their own corals. Im not saying its a phony, JMO.
Very well possible, but they're usually pretty good about throwing names on their stuff IME.
if it develops a blue sheen to it pls put me on the top of the list for a frag
You got it. Time will tell!

No, I'm sure if it was a Tyree, they would have advertised it as such. Just wondering if people think it looks like it could be legit. The growth pattern and white polyps tell me that it has potential, but it's so browned out that who knows what color it will end up

I have a frag also, but its pretty new so still coloring up too.
Looks a bit different than your pic, but hard to tell. Plus im not an expert..
<--- Sort of a newb! Hehe...

All of us were noobs at some point! I have a piece of the Tyree Purple Monster from Sexy corals as well that's definitely the real deal. It had a hard time in shipping (Thanks FedEx), but it's starting to color back up and looks great.

Nice pick up! A must have IMO, and if you got it from Mike its the real deal for sure!
I have picked up some sexy sticks myself!

I have an efflo and a Strawberry shortcake on the way from the live sale. Mike has some amazing stuff! For some reason chalices never do well in my system, but seeing some of his stuff makes me want to set up a chalice only tank

I wanted the efflo, you beat me to it! Haha..
I live in Cali, picked up frags of blue/pink mille and gold/pink tenius (??) from sexy live sale. Awesome acros!
And some sick chalice and favia! Good to be in SoCal.. :xd:

Sorry :squigglemouth: Someone else beat me to it as well, but then Mike told me that he had a second identical efflo, so I grabbed it.

Well the real deal is the Tyree or the same lineage as Tyree......that IS the coral. So if its not Tyree Purple monster how can it be legit?

It was around long before Tyree got slapped on the front of it, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility that it was aquired from the same source that Steve Tyree got his.
Coming from dr. Mac I'm sure it's the real deal if he said it was a purple monster...

That was what I was hoping to hear. Pacific East has always shown a good representation of what they're selling in my past experiences.

Here's a top down pic I snapped this afternoon that shows the growth pattern a bit better.

Probably not the Tyree based on the growth pattern. It should grow up in a very tight cone shape just like the point of a christmas tree. It may not be the original but I think the growth pattern on yours is still pretty neat and has a lot of potential to color up.

only time will tell. Hope it turns out to be the same one as the tyree fame for you since that one is truly a spectacular piece.

Thanks for the input. I thought that the growth pattern looked similar, but I'm going off of pictures and my other frag. How much does the growth pattern change based on flow with the PM? I've seen corals where the growth is completely different based on flow. For instance, my buddy has a Scripps that he gave me a frag of and his had long spread out branches like a slimer, while mine is a dense ball of branches due to the higher flow.

I've got my fingers crossed!

Agreed. Doesn't look like the original since that has a more dense growth pattern in terms of the branches but it still has the potential to be a very nice piece.
