I see this, or a variation thereof, said somewhat frequently. Do you have a study link? I have read that shells are approximately 95% calcium carbonate and 5% organic material .... which certainly would include some phosphates. But the same might be true for coral skeletons.

Either way, I removed any big shells I saw from the reborn, but did not go too crazy and my phosphate levels haven’t moved.
I must have read the shell/phosphate issue on some carx thread and thought it was science, my bad as I know better, lol.
Not sure I would use all shells in a carx but they are not going to impact phosphate levels in any way, imo.

I was genuinely curious and would like to know LOL. I guess time will tell whether the new reborn works as well as the old. So far so good.

That looks pretty bad, imo.

Im going tomorrow to a lfs that sell a larger size in white 50lb sacks.
It has some shells in it but not like that.
I posted a pic in a previous post of it.
If they tell me where they get it I will post the info.
I could not get in this week.

I have been using Tunze manmade media for over a year and plan on sticking with it.

That is pretty much identical to what I have in the bag that I received this month.

I got the same junk in what they call their “large size” 44lb bag. Couldn’t be more disappointed. This stuff used to be gold but now it looks like scrapped up garbage.

Does TLF have a forum or representative here anymore? I’d love to hear what they have to say. I’d like the real stuff I thought I was buying!

This is what I’ve picked out. I’d say 10% junk and probably more since I’m can’t be completely thorough with it.
I sent an email to TLF. Let see if they respond.

Wow that is terrible! I was totally happy when I saw this stuff was available again so I ordered three big bags. I haven’t used or inspected it yet, but I’m scared to take a close look.

Ok just got back from lfs.
This stuff looks like what you guys want.
It comes from a supplier in Manteca Ca. This guy only delivers to wholesale outlets though.
Aquatic rocks is the name. If you goggle it you will get a number.
Mom and pop operation as I am told.
His name is Doug.
2 grades ,#15 & #20.
I got 2 bags of #15. Lfs sells them for $1.25 a lb.
So $50 for a 40 lb bag.
#20 is huge pieces.
Lfs said you cant get the small pieces, like the ones in previous pics, anymore as they are banned.
They also said no more mined dry rock as its banned.
Only manmade rock now.
Not sure how true that is.
Anyway here are the pics.

Anybody in SoCal have wholesale capabilities? If so I'd like to go in on an order with you.
