Got back into this hobby with a 5g tall nano in october of 2015. Decided to upgrade to an 11g cube until it subsequently crashed last month (turbo snail kicked the bucket inside the rock work). I managed to save a frag of green mushrooms, my bta (mind you something happened to her to lose her tentacles, I assume from the crash), a rock that had some blue mushrooms and my lone red leg hermit in my 5g. Decided to invest some money and upgraded to a fluval evo 13.5 which I just set up last night. She's going through her cycle currently. Will post an update once the water clears and I get the rocks set up :)

Hey Jenny!
Where have you been?
Sorry to hear about the crash, but that fluval is sweet looking.
What are the plans for this tank?

I've been working too much! ;Hilarious Honestly I just want a couple of clowns and a nem along with some softies and lps. Never had sps before and I don't want to try them just yet. I've also been told to ditch the sponge in the back as they are "nitrate factories". I'm unsure of how I am going to set up my cuc but I'm open to suggestions. Also plan on getting a cleaner shrimp but I want to keep this one low maintenance I think.

Oh girl  work...... tell me about.

Low maintenance is key here but with 13.5g is hard to do.
Your filter sponge needs to be cleaned at least every three days as yes it’s collecting a lot of reef pOOp :p
Two clowns a nem a few softies are going to look nice in there.
A cleaner or fire shrimp adds to it.
Focus on cycling this tank really good for the next four weeks.

I hear you, I am prepared to do what ever is necessary to keep this one from crashing ;Sorry I've got the sponge in there for now to collect any large debris but I plan on switching it out for floss and a bigger bag of carbon and probably grab the skimmer that it comes with. I really do not want to have to clean the sponge out every 3 days... ;Dead was thinking also of an emerald crab since i do still have some bubble algae on a couple of rocks but we will see how it goes.

Can you remove your rock and scrape off your BA now you don’t have any livestock in there?

I'd take care of the bubble algae now while you can. take the rock out and manually remove all of it if you can, and for good measure squirt a little H202 where the algae was so it doesn't grow back. emerald crabs are hit or miss, only way to be sure you get rid of it is to do it yourself!

Sam got it right.
You can also inject the BA with a little MA and kill off all the spores in the bubble.

Alright BA removed for good I hope. Water is still a little cloudy but it'll pass. Now for cuc how many snails and what kind should I add?

Update: after losing my gbta and then my clowns I went through my fallow period. Now we have made some progress! Got corals stocked and my clowns back but I'm just dealing with some green hair algae that just doesn't want to quit despite having 2 turbo snails. I have an emerald crab but also want to add a cleaner shrimp soon.
