Recommendations

I need some recommendations on clean up crew for my 40g. I’ve seen the classic
CLEANUP CREW
* 4× Trochus Snails
* 3× Nassarius Snails
* 2× Cerith Snails

But I’m not sure if that’s enough or I should switch them up or if there is more interesting options

You're gonna need more eventually. But if it's a newer tank this isn't a bad start. I always think its a good idea to have as diverse of a clean up crew as possible. Astraea snail, Conch and Hermit crabs are generally good(hermits can be a bit risky, sometimes eating snails). Emerald crabs, Urchins, Starfish, Cucumbers, Shrimp are good but they are more situational.

Is the tank new or mature? Do you have algae, how bad is it? Is your current cuc doing a good job? I stock according to my tank's needs at that time, so I don't know what your tank needs. Sometimes you need to beef up the cuc sometimes not.

Has anyone ever received any dead things from Reefcleaners?

I ordered several items, one was supposed to be a sexy shrimp but clearly looks to be mysis shrimp?
The berghias are floating, even though I got them next day from FedEx and they did arrive fairly early before it got too hot.

I add 1 snail per gallon of water. Thats just my formula. Its worked well so far.

Just add them accordingly.. few at a time. if things gets ugly in the tank... beef it up.

Has anyone ever received any dead things from Reefcleaners?

Reef cleaners let me down on my first order (50% doa snails). I switch to reeftopia and had great luck with them. 120 hermits and 300 snails not one dud in the order. I also got 500 hermits from Reeftopia last week and there no dead ones in that bunch.

A lot of snails you get are small and even with Reef Cleaners diverse gallon specific packages it comes out to way more than 1 snail a gallon. A 50 gal diverse clean up crew package there are right at 100 different snails in it, that’s not even including the crabs. Many of the dwarf ceriths and other varieties included are very tiny which is good because they can get to those hard places big ones can’t, and they are very generous with the smaller snail counts. I’ve always had good luck with them on multiple different orders besides one.

I lost an urchin and a couple Halloween crabs on an order when that UPS plane crashed in Kentucky last year. My order was on a flight that was at or going through that airport and it got delayed/diverted by like 36 hours, but that wasn’t their fault.

I just had a massive snail hatch in my tank and I have a 4 x 2 x 2 tank and you couldn’t throw a dime in there at night and not land on a half dozen of them when the lights go dark. There has to be a minimum of 800-1,000 freshly hatched snails (ball point pin head size now) in my tank and I already have at least 100 mature snails of different varieties throughout my tank and sump

You see a lot of algae issues on this forum and I think a lot of people underestimate how many/variety of snails it takes. A couple pics of my newly hatched army starting to come out of hiding and grazing before the lights are even off. Don’t know what kind they are yet as I can’t tell. The rock work gets absolutely carpeted with them, they are on and in everything. I’ve had a solid Trochus snail hatch before but this one dwarfs that one.

I couldn't agree more. I think that is one of the issues with emerald crabs and bubble algea. People just dont put enough in. I put around 40 of them in my tank before I noticed any impact on it.
