I'm looking at getting a new tank. As we all know, this new glass just scratches easier. I have been ok with risking scratches with magnetic scapers on my smaller cheap tanks but would like to avoid it on this new expensive bigger tank. Are Tunze scrapers really superior? Hammerhead? I've only ever used flipper floats and have been mostly happy with them. Drop your suggestions!

I have had a few different size Flippers and have not scratched any of my glass tanks with them-- but I am neurotic when using them to avoid any and all grains of trapped sand.

I started with Flipper and was unhappy with it due to it not working well on coralline, and the fact that it regularly had sand trapped between it and the glass. I switched over to Tunze and never looked back. Bulldozes through the toughest algae and doesn't trap sand.

A Tunze scratched my glass while using the metal blade. Though may have been a peice of sand. Regardless I stopped using the metal blade with it. I still uses it with the plastic blades and keep a better eye to make sure no sand get caught. The design of a turn makes it hard to happen. But on rare occasions I have seen a grain hanging on. Anything the plastic blade can’t remove I do with a hand scrapper and softer touch.

The hype with Tunze is real! I was using Flipper for years… while I never had big scratch, I never felt fully comfortable and did get a couple small scratches that only I know are there. I started hearing all the great reviews on Tunze and didn’t think it could really be that big of a difference. Purchased one on sale last month and it’s hands down the best glass cleaner I’ve ever used in my decades of experience in FW and SW.
