So a couple of weeks ago I decided to completely re-do my aquascape. I had some zoanthids that went wild and I hated the look.
I spent a good amount of time building my scape out of dry rock, and gluing/mortaring it together. I loved it, but at the end of the day, starting with dry rock is not worth it to me. It’s rough in the beginning. Starting completely pest free is nice, however once you start bringing in frags, cuc, fish, etc you can end up with most of the pests anyways.
I went to the LFS and bought about 65 pounds of live rock. I had to remove my old scape all at once as it was one piece. This was not easy, I made a complete mess!! I had a few bins set up to hold corals once I chipped them off. However after I was done with the new aquascape the water in the bins was pretty cold. Corals were definitely stressed. I put almost all of my coral back in, minus a few that I just did not want. They were either too dull, too big, or too similar to other coral I wanted to keep.
The new rocks were nice. They were under a light at the LFS and were covered in coraline and had plenty of good critters/biome. After all my planning and fussing with the original rocks, I just basically piled these up!
Everything came out great, the tank looks much better. And more importantly no more pest zoanthids. I will never place zoas on the main rocks again. Over the next few weeks I lost two frags, but everything else is settling in nicely and starting to color up well.
