This FHC Radberry gets nicer every day. When I got it was basically just red. Now it has this amazing yellow/green base, and is pink and purple. In full daylight the pink looks more cranberry. The original frag did nothing g but base out for a year. Hard to tell from the picture but the original piece is about 3/4-1” in the middle of the pic. At about 10 o’clock. It won’t grow from there. All new growth has come from new nubs sprouted from new base. Amazing piece. I want to frag it so badly but do not want to stunt growth as it has been exploding over the last two months.

So a couple of weeks ago I decided to completely re-do my aquascape. I had some zoanthids that went wild and I hated the look.

I spent a good amount of time building my scape out of dry rock, and gluing/mortaring it together. I loved it, but at the end of the day, starting with dry rock is not worth it to me. It’s rough in the beginning. Starting completely pest free is nice, however once you start bringing in frags, cuc, fish, etc you can end up with most of the pests anyways.

I went to the LFS and bought about 65 pounds of live rock. I had to remove my old scape all at once as it was one piece. This was not easy, I made a complete mess!! I had a few bins set up to hold corals once I chipped them off. However after I was done with the new aquascape the water in the bins was pretty cold. Corals were definitely stressed. I put almost all of my coral back in, minus a few that I just did not want. They were either too dull, too big, or too similar to other coral I wanted to keep.

The new rocks were nice. They were under a light at the LFS and were covered in coraline and had plenty of good critters/biome. After all my planning and fussing with the original rocks, I just basically piled these up!

Everything came out great, the tank looks much better. And more importantly no more pest zoanthids. I will never place zoas on the main rocks again. Over the next few weeks I lost two frags, but everything else is settling in nicely and starting to color up well.

I also took the time to raise my lights. The tank was originally set up for T5’s and when the fixture didn’t work out I just hung the Orpheks at the height I had set up. They were too close. Now they sit about 15” from the water surface and I love it

Awesome set up. Gives me inspiration for mine as dimensions are similar albeit 4” narrower and 3” shorter in height. Love the 4’ tank look and depth with rock how you have it and plenty of room up top for open swim space. Growth on those corals looked awesome as well. Good to know since you’re using the same lights as I am. If you have a good schedule I’d love to see what you’re running. I wanted to go more natural reef look, but would be curious if you could PM me some of your schedule. Happy reefing!!

Thank you. I love the Orpheks. I believe you have one icon correct?

I can definitely send you my program. It is pretty white for a decent amount of time during the day.

Thank you. Yes things seem to be adjusting well. I left the light settings at what they were before I raised them. I am getting the local clubs par meter to see how much it went down by raising them

Yeah I have one icon, figured it would be enough for mixed reef but mostly lps and some easier to keep SPS stuff. Would definitely be curious what your par is at 15” above water surface. Mines around 18” above but the tank is only 21” deep, so I feel we would get similar par range, yours would just be more evenly distributed with having two for your SPS

It should be fine with one. Maybe some bars for added pop. The icons have good spread and definitely put out enough par
