Hi all! I have been seeing some posts about red sea products and various issues encountered especially with tanks. I was wondering if anyone else is having problems with their red sea led lights.

Apologies for the upcoming rant... My red sea 90 nearly as soon as it was out of warranty, started having connectivity issues. A few months back, the light stopped connecting to the internet altogether, but since it was already out of warranty and it worked on schedule, I left it as is. Some time ago however, the light would go through a full schedule cycle and then it would not turn on at all, until I unplugged it, and plugged it back. Doing this daily was an issue, so as per suggestions of red sea customer service, I fully reset it back to factory settings. After doing so, light was basically useless because I could not set it up since it did not want to connect to the internet at all. After some testing and research, I found out that this problem was cause by a dead board which is responsible for connection to wifi (you can find the board online by looking at its model number:R35172). The wifi module in red sea 90 as it turns out is very sensitive to spikes and dips in supplied power, and over time it seems like it killed the board. After replacing it, I was finally able to set up the light!

My joy was short lived, because the next morning the light did not turn back on which was my original issue which prompted me to contact red sea customer service. I kept on trying to figure out what else could be causing this issue, and thats when i noticed that after the full cycle, the status light in the back was dim and flickered which made me wonder if maybe there is an issue with the power supply. So, i ordered a different power supply with identical specs. When i grabbed the old power supply to replace it with the new one, that's when I found that the old power supply is very hot to the touch. After replacing the power supply, the issue resolved finally bringing me back to a fully functioning light. Upon further investigation I found that the power supply originally used in that model is the bare minimum that can power the light when its used at full capacity, which I bet overheats and kills the power supply. For a light that costs that much I honestly expected something a bit better...

Well, that was a lot... I'm curious if anyone else encountered similar issues. I'm writing this to help others with similar issues with this light. Before I realized that my light is not working as it should, it caused a lot of issues in my tank and all in all no corals have survived... if anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with this from here, please dm. I'm also urging all red sea led owners to check your power supplies, my power supply was pretty close to starting a fire with how hot it got, please check it for your safety.

Thanks for this. I have been dealing with the same connectivity issue for the past three weeks and am at my wits end. I am to the point where I am looking for a new light for my tank. And it aucks because I really like my Red Sea 90 leds

I had 4 RS Reef90s, the app and initial setup were not trivial.

I did have issues, and I had to delete the lights out of the app and re add them, which fixed it.

If that doesn't work I'd delete teh app and reinstall like it was a fresh install.

Sometimes replacing the small battery on the board helps with this issue. Red Sea has a pretty comprehensive replacement guide for that one on their website! I hope that helps!
