I also placed a net cover onces I started to have gobies and wrasses, the net does not look great from the top in fact I never see it and I rather have it than lose a fish.
I’ve got the Red Sea cover and it doesn’t look that bad actually.

Don’t get me wrong I would sooner be open top, but the fish keep jumping so it’s a necessity unfortunately

Hi guys,
Just thing to buy Red Sea S-Max or Reefer. Can anyone tell me how is a maintenance of AutoTopUp water compensation compartment at the back of the tank in S-Max ?
Is it easy to clean? No leaks, how easy and handu to refill that reservoir?
How to maintain and any issues with water flow pumps in S-Max?
How is the included skimmer, is it powerful enough for sps reef?
Please any experience.
My experiences......No need for any maintenance in the water compartment for the ATO. It is easy to fill using the small set of steps that come with the tank. I also use a funnel attached to a small piece of tubing to pour the water into the chamber, just to avoid any spillage onto the floor.
The water flow pumps are pretty easy to remove and clean. I usually do this every six months or so.
The C-Skim is good as a skimmer, but very noisy, hence why Red Sea are now going to produce their very own Skimmer for the first time.
The S-Max is a beautiful tank.

Hi all, Better late than never huh - i see there's quite a few suspect characters lurking in this thread :)

An S-series thread with no pics????:eek::eek: I Love the look of these systems. Does everyone stick with the stock CL pumps or have any of you tried switching them out for DC pumps to get more random/adjustable flow patterns??

I've put Jebao OW 10's up there - They can be set up to sync on/off between 2 of them so i have 4 (2x2)that are paired that go on/off for about 8-10sec each. Nice random flow.

The plug on these controllers is a small power supply that fits in where the originals used to plug into on the powercentre.
Controllers i've put at the back to the side of the RO top off lid.

Not sure if i'm even able to fit in a s650 thread as there's not a lot of stock things here anymore

Bit of explaining:
2 peri pumps feeding the white canister on the left - that's my denitrator that i like to run double probe/controller & pump on for safety.
Next to the right of the denitrator is a Ati 200 powercone skimmer - run mostly to help ph & also has ozone feed on it.
Next right BM D9 skimmer
Right side front BM filter roller - For a while i've been running a Jebao DC10000 for return pump & this fits under the middle media rack compartment & free's up the normal return pump chamber.
Chiller outside left
Outside right is Carx + kalk stirrer + Co2 scrubbers for the skimmers

Welcome @2una at last!

I suppose the glass in the tank at least is the same! Lol

I can’t believe how much kit you have in there, wow!

Very nice tank you have there as well with all those corals and fish, very nice.

That is impressive @2una, nice tank, so much customization. Congrats.

Thanks for popping in, @2una

Your reef looks great, as always.

When did you take down your sunpower's and put on your led's?

Thanks Guys, been on led by themselves for 9 months now Freddie, i've not long added 1 extra just to see if the extra par does anything much. 4 was okay but i'm noticing these acro's i have still seem to shrug off 4 running at 100% so i put the other 1 there to see what happens.
With 4 I had 1 light go down & my alk started creeping up so i'm guessing with that being the case i wasn't at that stage overlighting so have gone the extra 1 now.

Hey @GoVols, yes I just moved in to M’Boro, it is a small world hahaha. Good to know there are good reefers around!

Where are the good LFS here?
Only one to speak of, but it's top notch.

I've known the owner (Chris Bagan) since 1990 and his lead manger (Chris Richards) is kin to my wife by marriage.

Thank you for the tip! I will pay them a visit, I am trying to resist the temptation to buy another tank for the house here since the other one had to stay in Mexico.

Hello All,
I am a new RSM-S650 owner and looking forward to start my reef journey. I had few tanks in the past and for last couple years I did little clown fish breeding. I will start build thread soon, but expect this be a slow process. Here is the link to my aquascaping plan and my empty canvas.

Sweet 650...did you get a deal? I currently have a 500-s but the 650 will be my next dream tank if I can score a deal on a used one. Going to follow your thread...

Congrats! Always a great feel starting a new setup!

Ever thought of making a foam back rock wall? I like them as I never end up cleaning the back wall of any of my tanks.

Heres a pic of mine while silicone is drying to back wall late in 2017:

That is awesome, I love it. That wall looks massive in the first picture, but once water and corals are in it looks great.

Thanks! If I were to do it again I would have put less live rock in the tank to leave room for more coral growth (and so you could actually see the back wall lol!) But with the rock wall and live rock added it allows for tons of caverns, caves and tunnels for fish to go through.

Good luck on your build, love RSM 650!
