Had some leakage around the return pipe of my 450. Found out that the threads on the return pipe have cracked and causing the leak. So I need to replace the pipe. I am also going to hardline plumb everything while I'm at it. Am I correct in thinking that I first need to turn off the return pump and let the water drain into the sump, then in some way remove the remaining water in the overflow chamber before removing the pipe? Anyone do this with a tank full of water?

It can be done. A really good sponge will help with getting the last of the water out from behind the weir. A grout sponge use for doing tile grout works GREAT!
