Then it is cyano bacteria. Your best bet to rid your tank is to manually remove the algae. You will be removng algae and nutrients at the same time.

If I manually remove the algae it just comes back in a few days.

IF it is dinos I would just siphon them out periodically. If you have access to it, add an aluminum-based silicate remover. The dinos will eventually starve themselves out.

that definitely looks like cyano, its not always red/purple cyano, ive seen different color blooms in my past few tanks.. the outbreaks in my brother's tank right now is a dark black... and i was reading about people having blue and green cyano blooms..

Its not going to go away overnght. Remove it whenever you see it. This will take about a month but it will work. I am not a fan of chemicals so i always suggest other means of removal.

i would get rid of a couple hermits, then add about 6 turbos and about 10 naursaris snails.. and maybe some olive snails if ur tank has been setup for at least 6 months.. btw how long has ur tank been setup? this could be why you keep having these blooms, when i first got in the hobby i got alot of different algae blooms..

My tank has been setup for 6 months.

Yeah you certainly need more sand sifters. When I have a sand-bottom I had great luck with an olive snail and fighting conch.

I agree with Jiffy on adding turbos to control hair algae. Just keep an eye on your corals because they will knock everything over.

Hair algae is a whole other animal...you need to check your nutrients in check and monitor your phosphates...limit feeding too
