Red thorny starfish question

I picked up a red thorny star a few days ago he’s been active today question is should I feed him and if it wasn’t gonna survive in my tank would it have alrdy died

I don’t know what you mean by thorny, but the general rule I always followed is that knobby type starfish belong in the ocean. They slowly starve to death in aquariums over a few months. But again, I don’t know what you Have

No experience with them, but from a quick google search.

The Red Thorny Sea Star requires a large aquarium with ample supplies of live rock. A small specimen will eat algae. As it grows older, however, it is not reef compatible, as it will eat soft corals, sponges, tubeworms, clams, starfish, and other invertebrates. It should not be housed with puffers

most starfish above 5 inches imo need at least 40 gallon breeders around 6 to 9 months as this allows for algae and micro algae to take hold
