I was the guy asking you about glucose. I asked you about pictures of your SPS from back in the day! I can’t wait to see this new system! :)
Yeah I remember that not too long ago. Wasn’t sure if you were someone from way back in the day when I was much more active on the forums. How’s the dosing going? I’m just sticking with vinegar in my little nano. It’s cheap and hard to OD.

I’m actually using glucose as an experiment to see if it can outcompete dinoflagellates. I have a 10 gallon test tank. :)

I wasn’t around ”way back,” but I was researching about sugar and that’s how I stumbled across your posts.

Are you a scientist? What’s your background? :)

I was a scientist at one point. Realized I would not be able to raise kids and manage research so I switched fields. Now I’m an anesthetist with a wife, kids, and a mortgage.

New arrival! Noo-Psyche k7 v3 pro! 140w of power for my little nano.

Went through that whole procedure on getting connected to the internet. These china toys all require 2.4ghz, non-mesh networks… luckily have an old asus router I could hook up for an access point.

Another issue I’m dealing with is the bracket does not allow my nano lid to close on the overflow. This seems like it should be an easy fix. But I can’t just invert the holder so maybe I just need an insert against the back to shrink the footprint inside the overflow…

I originally setup this nano with a MicMol G3 Aqua. The disco effect was much more pronounced. On top of that I felt the LEDs were very harsh to my eyes and seemed to negatively impact the inhabitants. My clowns were constantly avoiding the light and I attribute it to either wavelength bleed of the LEDs into short wavelength spectrum, refresh rate, the gaps in spectrum (since it contained 380nm, 410, 450, and 470nm diodes), or a combination of all the issues.

The Noo-Psyche k7 v3 has more channels. And with the LED clusters reduces the disco effect. Also able to dial in the pleasant AB+ look by keeping cool white, green, red channels at 25% of the royal blue, blue, and UV channels.

At 140w power there is no need to go anywhere near max on this nano. This morning I have it dialed in at 6% white/red/green and 25% royal/blue/uv. All corals seem to be tolerant of the light change.

Finally got the doser setup….

One concern I have is that 1.5L may only last for two months or less depending on stocking. Need to brush up on making 3-part.

Labs today

Ca 410
dKh 9.6
Mg 1280
PO4 0.01
NO3 0

Need to figure out settings to take photos under new lights. Debating iPhone upgrade from 8 Plus to 14 Pro. Picture quality would definitely improve but I lose my beloved fingerprint sensor.

Some people say the newer iPhones are worse at photographing reef tanks. You may or may not need a filter.

I believe Face ID is a much better upgrade than the Touch ID. I really like Apple products.

Haha “labs.” (Nurse practitioner here.)
Haha I didn’t catch that and actually was wondering if I should have wrote lab parameters or lab values. Nice to have a CNP here to catch all my bumblings :).

Im going to order that filter. I’ve seen it recommended a few times now.

Filter should arrive today or tomorrow. Let’s see if my photography significantly improves!

I guarantee it will! If you got the Orphek, it will have two filter lenses, a macro lens, and a polarization lens. I use BOTH filter lenses at the same time, and the other lenses only as needed. All four can be put on at once, but at least on mine the macro lens must always go last.

Have been patiently waiting for camera filters to arrive so I can start taking better pics… Delays in shipping and a strange notification that I may be entitled to a full refund makes me think these lenses will be at least another week.

Still dialing in the doser. Up to 5mL every two hours and parameters starting to stabilize.

pH 8.17

Alk 8.7
Mg 1280

Finally got those Orphek lenses for the iPhone in. Pretty good at color correction. Really tones down the blues from the Noop. Color still not where I want it but I think adjusting the LEDs to a standard for photography might be needed.

Upped my dosing schedule to 5mL every 2hrs for Aquaforest Components 1, 2, 3+ to get stable parameters. Dosing 60mL per day of each in a 28g.

Started a new project with the 3D printer. MP10 anemone guards. Made three so I ordered three MP10s. Most likely will have them dialed back for this aquarium but should give enough random flow for about anything to grow.

From what I’ve read antisync Reefcrest mode is the way to go. Plan is to have two on the back pushing back and forth and one on the side glass to give a little extra random current.

Finally got around to this little project.

Found out after installing the rods that they don’t seal with these bulkheads and can’t be used. Went back to write a review on BRS and turns out this is a well known issue even though they promote it in their video. Substituted out for flex tubing and guess that’ll have to do.

Three MP10s in and set on antisync lagoon at low settings. Nice water movement. Everything seems happy and tank parameters stable.

Ca 410
dKh 9.3
Mg 1280
NO3 0
PO4 0.01

I made a switch from vinegar in my ATO water to citric acid. Don’t know if there is a noticeable difference but see how tank does over the next year with it.

Put an order in with ReefExclusive for some sps that I’ll be adding in mid February. After that not really sure what is left? Maybe a few more fish? A clam?

Still working on photography. Aquarium at high noon pics have more pink in them than is visible with eyes.
