Has anyone got or seen in person the new Redsea Reef-Frame? I'm about to get a 500 and interested in some views other than "don't get Redsea because of failures of other/older models". Yes they've had a lot of issues, but the appear to have been addressed with the design of this model - Thanks in advance for any helpful feedback

Not what you asked for so feel free to ignore me. I wouldn't put another redsea tank in my home, I don't care what improvements they've made. They've denied the problems they have and anyone who wants to discuss the failures gets banned from the RS Facebook page. Their behavior and mishandling of the situation with all the failures along with lying about it all is reason enough for me not to ever purchase another RS tank. Add to that I've had a Gen 2 reefer 170 and Gen 2 reefer 300 fail. I'm not playing three strikes and out, two is enough for me.
I highly recommend you spend a little time researching all the failures and how red sea has mishandled the situation before deciding spend thousands with the company. Redsea has the best marketing department in the industry IMO but that quality doesn't extend to their tanks regardless of the BS they spew and the supposed improvement.
If you want to ignore all the warning signs and believe RS has fixed the problem then I wish you luck but caveat emptor.
FWIW the cause of the failures is the two part silicone they use not the tank designs.

Thanks, but I'm just after knowing if anyone has seen one in the flesh or owns one and has an opinion on the practicality of the tank.

I say this respectfully, I specifically asked to not have replies of opinions on Redsea as a company or comments on their aftersales service from models other than the Reef-Frame. I wish you luck, fellow reefer.

I think you'll find that most members of R2R share the same opinion of Red Sea tanks as the previous poster.

I do hope you find the information you're looking for 🙂

Good luck!

I have a question for the RS customers or soon to be customers; are there not any brands with a better reputation that suit your needs? I just find it baffling that so many support this comapny with so many options now available. I admit to purchasing their salt, but once I read up on their treatment of customers after failures, I refuse to give that company a dime and switched to a new, better product.

Good luck to you, but I'll echo the sentiment about not supporting bad behavior regardless of whether they fixed the issue.

I have seen them at the lfs that still has several RS systems running for many years.
They look nice but behond that not much to comment on as I did not look close enough at the new model.
I can look at one if its still up. They sell alot of systems.
Lfs is 1 mile away.
What specifically are you interested in?

Thanks, I’m interested in knowing if there any features included in the reef-frame model that are worth a mention, or more importantly if there are any omitted features worth commenting on.

It’s brand new and I’m interested in some review-worth information.

In response to the other replies: I understand your views on Redsea and the recent history, but come on guys, respect the thread… that’s not the topic of discussion here.

We won't know for sure if the problem is fixed until a few years have passed with the tanks filled. Any meaningful reviews about reliability at this point in time are meaningless. Sure you can review the changes but thats already published information.

I understand and met no disrespect, but am curious if you have considered a different brand

I have noticed that the Reef Frame tank line (vs. the G3 Reefer line) explicitly markets “euro silicone”, which is vague, but would indicate it’s at least different in composition from their usual junk… also, the Reef Frame systems stop at 500L max size, indicating that RS doesn’t trust the design for larger tanks, or doesn’t want to compete with their own “premium” Reefer line…

On a positive note, it looks like the 500L model is a nice step up in structural safety factor! It’s the first RS tank I’ve calculated safety factor for which exceeds a minimum threshold of 3.8, at 4.08SF!

If these were being built by a reputable manufacturer, I’d be more inclined to trust one in my home… as it is, this seems to be RS still desperately trying to get ahead of bad PR after going through four generations of Reefer aquariums in 3-4 years… creating a new line of tanks which explicitly markets being “different” from their usual Reefer lineup…

Hi, yes I have whittled it down to the Cade, The D-D and The RS Reef-Frame. The RS meets my ideal dimensions, and represents the best value with the max option. And, imo, also looks the best.

Full disclosure first: we're an authorized Red Sea dealer in Key West. I personally like the frames, they go to together well and leveling is very straightforward. Whatever tank you buy, register the warranty the day it arrives, level the stand on the floor before the tank goes on, fill it with fresh water and let it sit a few days before rock and salt go in, and keep every receipt. Ask your dealer how warranty claims are handled before you buy, so you know what happens if something goes wrong, I hope that helps. I’m just finishing up an install on an S550. If you look me up I’m going to do a walk through of the build this week. Cheers!

This is precisely why I recommend one of my LFS over the other… one sells Red Sea and repeats these claims about leveling and the other doesn’t sell Red Sea.

Lets get a few things straight:

1) If leveling was so problematic we’d see the same failure mode across various vendors and we don’t. AKA this leveling claim by Red Sea doesn’t hold water (just like their tanks). Adding Eurobracing to the G3 is admitting a problem without admitting it.

2) A warranty isn’t going to cover the house damage and the $1000s of lost livestock. Not to mention warranties only last a few years.

3) @UncommonSense has autopsied these tanks to death. Everyone here knows it’s the quick-curing silicone that lets them ship more product.

4) There are so many good-looking tanks out there. Honestly the IM APS stands look so much better than the MDF IKEA look of Red Sea stands imo. Factor in the fact that RS is a ticking disaster and the choice is clear.

IM didn’t make my shortlist as there are no suppliers in the UK

Thanks for the info 👍 Will lookout for the thread

Red Sea made a mistake by discontinuing the Max S line. I have the S650 and in my opinion it's a well designed and a well-built Tank. Aluminum Stand and Euro bracing, and no overhang. I've never noticed any deterioration with the Seals at least so far. They have handled the seam failures with the Reefer G2's poorly and even if they have a new design and changed silicon, the Customer Support issues would be enough to disqualify them when considering a new Tank.

I’m the potential customer you’re talking about so maybe I can answer from the perspective of someone saving up to get their first “big” system.

I’ve researched, priced and seen all these brands in person:
Innovative marine
Water box
Red Sea
Nyos

Nobody does the integration like RedSea. I think that’s why it’s so hard to just write them off. They look good and you can pay one price and have a package that works together with a single app and pre planned cable management. I know reefers are split on wheather they like putting it all together themselves or not but you have to at least acknowledge that it can be a pro.

Nyos just seemed cheap.

waterbox looks like a redsea with about 70% of the integration, but really nice still (I’ll probably end up with one)

Innovative marine is so amazingly overbuilt, they’re built like “tanks” and I’d love to have one but you basically have to build it out yourself and for what it’s worth I think their stands are ugly

So to answer your question nobody is doing what redsea is, or at least to the same level. I think there will be threads like this until someone can build an ecosystem like what redsea has.

I don't think people are dissatisfied with RS's Design or Build Quality. The Build Process and Materials are another matter. The process for assembling the Tanks and the Materials needs a thorough review as they seem to be the weak link.

Yeah I'm with you there, just playing devils advocate. I personally would love to see them fix their tanks, then there really wouldn't be any doubt for people in my shoes.

RedSea reliability aside, does anyone know what the difference is between the frame and the reefer g3+ is? They have a Frame and G3+ 350 that look literally identical. Did they just expand the whatever they were doing with the frames to the reefer line?
