COMMON NAME - Redspotted Hawkfish

SIZE - 3.7" (9.5 cm)

MIN. AQUARIUM SIZE - 20 US Gal. (76 L)

FOODS AND FEEDING - Meaty marine fare for carnivores, crustacean flesh, Mysid shrimp, fresh / live and frozen preparations. Feed Daily.

REEF COMPATIBILITY - May feed on smaller delicate shrimp, small fish, otherwise, excellent.

CAPTIVE CARE - The Hawkfish acclimates well to captivity, may be shy until acclimated to system then can become aggressive towards newly introduced tank mates. If introduced at the same time more than one can be housed in a medium to large tank are not the same size, and if adequate hiding places are provided. Spends most of its time sitting in the open.

I know this is ancient, so sorry for the necro, but does anyone have any experience with these fish? I see various places saying that they can eat "smaller fish".

Is this actually a problem, if they are kept well fed? How small is "small"?

The whole "well fed" is just a myth, nature is nature. This fish doesn't get that big, probably around 3"or so, so anything 1/2 it's size or less. It's not like a trigger so it's not ripping things up, but it is a sneaky little dangerous predator in it's own right. Will eat shrimp and other cuc like grabbing a hermit by the leg. Can be aggressive but a very cool fish if in the right tank.
