Hello everyone,

I know everyone is trying hard these days to make a living but this just frustrates me to no end. I dont normally add fish to my setup because the stock i have, ive had for many years. But this year I wanted to add some smaller fish because many of my fish a large. I selected the online store Reef Beauties out of California for these new fish.

I place 3 rather large orders. First order was for a couple Blotched Anithias. One died. They were awesome about the warranty but only offered store credit. Its a hassle but ok. So I ordered replacement fish and some more. Same thing happened only this time they died in shipping because lack of water in the bags. I attributed this to trying to save weight with shipping and voiced this concern. I also said I was having problems with the first dieing after acclimatazation that same night. This shop's communication is email only - no phone calls - but they did listen and offered another warranty. So I placed a third, large, order with them. Same fish die off problem, but this time I simply voiced my frustration and said Im not interested in the warrenty. Ill just eat the money lost and chalk this up to a bad experiece...

What prompts me to post this is now Im loosing some of my VERY old fish to some mystery disease? Is this their falt? I dont know but I've had these fish forever - some are 10yrs plus. It seems linked to me, and this is why I dont have new additions. I should have known better but.... Heck I dont even try to add new coral for this very reason!

Anyway, be careful out there people. You dont know what shops are doing out there, and it seems people push product out the door regardless of condition to pay bills. We end up paying the price but with a "waranty."

PS, fish acclimatization is spot on. An hour in the tank for temp, two hours with slit in bag for salinity, and then into an individeal holding box so other fish can get used to them. They are in the box for 3 days and then they're released at night.

There are so many diseases out there I would never add a fish with out quarantine. Even from company’s that
sell pre quarantine and treated fish they still go into my QT tank for observation. I am sorry for your losses
You’re absolutely correct! It’s been a very long time since I’ve added fish and I should have known better! They say they are quarantined and are the cream of the crop so I guess I wasn’t worried. Sigh… Hindsight 20/20 I guess. Just so frustrating. Thank you Me & my 👍🏻🍻🤛🏻

You did the opposite of their acclimation guide. Did you not read their guide?

Acclimation Guide – Reef Beauties https://share.google/ZgDFYZo8NpjgkDjJx

After shipment, don't drip acclimate and don't use holding box. 30 mins temperature only. Any time you receive fish in the mail, your number 1 priority is to get them into your tank ASAP because of the ammonia build up in the bags.

My first order with them is coming tomorrow so I will update this thread with how that goes. Temperature is dropping to 40 degrees tonight so I hope they add enough heat pack.

They do not claim they sell quarantine fish anywhere on their website. Honestly, this + not following the acclimation guide means you did 0 research on how to buy fish online.

Next time, use TSM Aquatic or Dr. Reef if you need quarantined fish but expect to pay double or triple the price.

I have been where you are , I added 2 fish to my old tank and in a matter of 2 weeks ever fish that was in there was dead . I am sure it was brook that took them out and the fish came from a buddy’s tank and he had them for over a year . Stress in moving and stress in shipping acclamation can cause stuff to come out in the fish

Never do any kind of slow acclimation for fish. The CO2 will escape the bag, pH will rise, and oxygen will turn the ammonium into ammonia very quickly and pretty much death sentence the fish.

Quick Edit - This is only the case when the fish are shipped overnight and the bag becomes low in oxygen/high in CO2. Straight from the store is no issue.

They clearly state on their website they do not do a full 4-6 weeks quarantine. The fish stays in their system for as little as 3 days before they are sold.

They state very clearly? Where is this clear information you’re speaking of? Because I can’t find it….?

Quarantine: We do not do a full 4-6 week quarantine protocol, but we never ship livestock immediately after receiving them. We do a mild quarantine, where fish must remain in our system for a minimum of 3 days. We run hyposalinity (1.018-1.019) and a small amount of copper throughout our fish system to keep things clean while they are onsite.

Honestly, considering you did not follow their acclimation guide at all, they did you a solid by offering store credit.

Thank you. I didn’t even see this on their website… geeze - I feel stupid 😢
Lesson learned! I would try and edit your post so that the vendor doesn't get hit from the traffic here. That's not fair to them.

I recently got a shipment from Dr reefs 3 weeks ago. All fish came in healthy and followed acclimation protocol. 2 fish didn’t make it thru shipping which was the katos fairy wrasse. They actually sent me 2 good on their part since they are very fragile unfortunately neither one made it. Gave me credit I’m using on another wrasse. Waited 6 weeks for them I trust them completely and will order again from them. If your gonna order fish online read everything and exactly how they received/quaratine and acclimate them

I’ll ask again. Where is this very clear information on their website?
I posted the links to their acclimation guide and quarantine policy in this thread already but I will post them again.

It is concerning that you couldn't find my replies from earlier....
