This would be AMAZING to do....my saltwater skills are no where near ready for this, and I have ZERO acrylic skills to even attempt this

I wouldnt. Try bonding the top..maybe lube up the edge of the tops of the table tank and putting silicone all the way around that, then put the lid on and let dry. The lube from the acrylic will keep the silicone from sticking and a good grip so u don't bump the table!

I take it this will be a clear glass top? If it wasn't super deep you could use a few par 38s or something and install them into the bottom of some cool looking vases or something, some led fixtures could even fit in a book lol...cut out an outdated aquarium coffeetable book and use that! Possiblilities are endless with diy, have fun!

You could put a top brace on the tank if needed but have the very top piece lifted off of the tank using spacer maybe acrlyic 2-6", that way you could still get inside? Unless you wanted a sealed one piece. Just throwing that out there.

Here is what i had planned out. My main material is going to be 1/2 acrylic for the bottom, sides, and top. I'm still figuring dimensions but so far I'm liking 30 x 36 and 20 tall. I'm playing with lighting ideas I'm thinking acrylic triangles in corners with leds vertical in tank and horizontal inside thr rim. The top will be a completely removable lid. For filtration i was thinking of having a custom reef insert to hold the filter.

cant post drawings from phone . Hopeful will post them soon. Would like others .02

Thanks

Correct me if I am wrong, and I can be/probably am.....but if you are only doing a fish tank the lighting wouldn't matter, only would matter if you were doing corals.

I like the idea of triangles for lights. In the 4 corners of the table could put a small acrylic strip so there are no corners in the water and it makes a small void space where you could put strip LEDs for lighting. As for the filter equipment, not sure how I could handle that

Leds are most def the way to go here. Odds are you have share your occupancy with someone and you gotta think in their perspective as well. Every idea you have you should act out what they would say (or ask them lol). On a table, any 3D object will be in someones way at one point. Its all about aesthetics @ this point. Good thing we aren't stuck w/ metal halides! Than ud have to have a coffee table fan, but it would also keep ur joe heated!
