Interesting concept, anything to reduce aquarium maintenance.

Interesting concept, even more interesting how many people are head over heels about it. One one hand we want to preserve natural reefs and help the environment and on the other we're gung-ho about having to constantly throw away a product instead of doing 5 minutes worth of maintenance.

+1 vote do a little maintenance and avoid disposable products

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

1-2 days isn’t very long for regular socks from what I’ve read :oops:. I’m setting up my first tank that has a sump now with 4 holders and have been searching for direction. The reef diapers intrigue me because the negative reviews say they last about 3 days which is when BRS says you should change normal socks anyway. Total cost would be about $120/yr which beats roller mat options. So to be clear are you saying they last a shorter time than regular socks, or just that they don’t catch as much detritus? I suppose it’s a precarious balance. If the socks are too fine and catch too much they’ll get slammed for not lasting long enough. If they’re not fine enough they’ll last a lot longer but not catch as much and get slammed for that too. Sounds hard to win in that scenario.

Reef Diapers appears to be a small home based startup with 3D printed flanges (but no Red Sea flanges yet). So I’m supportive of the effort and willing to give them a try. Just trying to hone in on the specific criticism here. BTW they have a presence on R2R.

I collect dirty socks in buckets until I have time to go outside and hit them with hose on 'jet' setting. Better for environment in my opinion and lets me do them when I can.

I used to do that but now I just throw them in the washer with 34% h2o2 or bleach, run a cycle and be done.
My 120 get changed every 2 days and my 45 around 4-5.
