Just purchased a Aquatop Recife ECO 40 Gallon tank. My first saltwater tank have had many fresh water tanks over the years. Plan for this to be a reef tank. It sound as though I need to upgrade my lighting. Was considering the AI Prime HD16 light. Will this be large enough for he 40 gallon cube?

What are the tank dimensions and what type of coral are you planning to grow?

So that will also help identify the needed light. Until you know I would hold off. If you plan to get soft corals and LPS they usually require less intensity of lighting (PAR) and if you plan to grow SPS Corals they require much more intensity. So I recommend you figure out what you are intending to add and then we can help you get more bang for your buck. Also, what type of lighting budget you have would help too.

I’m leaning toward soft and LPS. trying to stay with some more forgiving species since my knowledge and experience in non existent. Budget wise like to be around $300.

I personally favor Kessils. You could get a 360X used for around that likely with an arm. A radion XR15 would work too. If you wanna go cheaper theres some pretty decent options on Amazon Amazon product

After you decide what kind of corals you want to keep, then look at lighting. Ai prime could do that tank with Lower light demanding corals. If you wanted to go fill sps you could go with a hydra 64 or radion xr30

2 16hds or 1 32hd will grow whatever you want.
My 18" 20g nano cube and my 30g 24x20x18 both run 2 16hds.

I have the same tank I set up last month. I just purchased the Current USA Orbit r24 bundle that comes with a new DC pump and wave maker(basic powerhead) on sale at bulk reef supply for $295 shipped. It claims 100 PAR at 24" deep with a 20x20 spread for LPS. Not to mention the increased flow from the pump and all bluetooth controllable together. I will try to update with the results.

Any update?
Got everything in and there was no update for the app. Couldn't test it out to give a review. I do believe it has been updated since but wasn't gonna chance it happening again and not have it working. Returned everything.

Ended up going with a noopsyche pro (overkill) and a cheap jerepet 520gph pump from Amazon. Both work just fine. Pump is super quiet.
