Hi guys. I’m having a bit of trouble keeping my return pump chamber in my sump at a consistent level which is making my ato go off when not needed. I’ve found it to be my reef mat that is causing it and is holding the water in there until the roll advances and lets the water out which causes my return pump chamber water level to rise. Tanks been running for about 2 months and just starting to come out of the ugly phase so the reef mat seems to be pulling out a lot more dirt than usual. It has been fine before the last week or so. Any advice would be appreciated. Thankyou.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

This seems like a good question for the R2R #reefsquad team 🙂

Could you list what tank and roller mat you have? Maybe post a pic or video of your problem?

Good luck!

I ran a reefmat 500 and it did the same thing. I just set the ATO sensor at the level I wanted the sump to be when the roller was almost ready to advance. It would be too high when it advanced but it didn't hurt anything. When the roller filled up the ATO would activate if needed to keep the level where I wanted it. I didn't worry about the water level being a little high when the fleece advanced as long as it didn't get low which it shouldn't if the ATO is functioning. My ATO has a high level sensor also and I just set it a little above where the level is when the fleece advanced so it didn't alarm but still ordered over full protection. I don't know of anyway prevent a little fluctuation in the water level when running a roller. I have a couple N clear M rollers in a tank and it behaves the same.

I see this is your first post. Consider posting a tank journal in members tank forum.

What size tank is this?

What livestock is in tank at 2 months and what do you want this tank to become?

Ok Thankyou. I will try this.

Hi. It’s a water box 190.5. Tank is 5x2x2ft I currently have a bangai, Midas blenny, black ocellaris clown pair, tomato clown, blue cheek goby, royal granma and a load of snails

I know exactly what you're talking about since I had the same problem and it was super annoying with the Tunze ATO beeping (which I like, actually). Instead of placing the sensor in the return chamber, I’ve moved it to the same chamber as the fleece roller. Mine is located behind the Deltec VF8000, the coolest fleece roller imo. 😎

Good luck!
