I am trying to size a skimmer for my soon to be 240 gallon mixed reef with a medium bioload. CoralVue specs the 200INT between 200-400 gallons. A 7yr old BRS video has it at 100-175. Who is more accurate?

I have an Elite 220Int on my roughly 210 gallon medium bioload system with a Reefmat 1200. Occasionally I’ll catch it not producing skimmate, but for the most part, it’s making some thick nasty sludge.

For your situation, I’d say either the 200 or 250 will work space depending. 200 is slightly undersized and 250 is slightly oversized. You’re roughly the same volume I am and in the middle of both, but I opted for the bigger.

In my experience, as my third Reef Octo skimmer over the years, the manufacturer’s recommendation is high gallon wise. BRS is low but closer to reality.

Another thing to consider is size. These things are large, obviously you have dimensions online, but in person, I was shocked. Here’s my old regal 150 cup vs the 220.
