I am also probably doing something wrong with setting up the timer, I have it set up for turning on the heater at 10pm and turning it back off at 6am.

Cary, I'm not sure if you are still stuck on this or not.
My new Pi and SD card are coming in today (I was borrowing the other from a friend).
I will start over from scratch on this new one, and try to set it up completely remotely. I will document as I go for this startup.

Ryan, Thanks, I bought an HDMI to vga cable on my way home and will be working on the Pi this weekend. Really excited to get with it. Good luck and happy writing. I will keep track of my steps as well.

Nope. This should do. But remember now heater is controlled by both timer as well as temperature controller

will it matter or affect if both timer and temperature controller is going at the same time?
sorry, I am asking too many questions. I will be leaving town for 10 days and this is the first with my reef. I have 3 other fresh water tanks and I have them automated to a place where I can them safely for upto 2 weeks.

No worries, ask as many question as you can, this helps you , me and everyone in this thread :-)
Now coming back to your question: It does not matter too much, since the temperature controller will override the timer's effect on heater (whether it on or off) since it runs lot more frequently. Its just bit misleading from the timers perspective, that even though you declare it to be on whole night, it might not be, cause temperature controller may switch it off if the temperature is high , vice versa, it may turn heater on, during day if temperature is low, even though timer has turned it off in the morning.

Now, regarding your issue with the temperature controller, I just realized there was a bug and I fixed the temperature controller couple of days back (https://github.com/reef-pi/reef-pi/pull/208/files#diff-424f58a504a5feac0bb39c17cf5950b7R126) . I'll cut a release tonight (in 5 -6 hrs from now), you can use that. Will that work?

yes, that will work. I can't thank you enough. I will leave town around noon tomorrow, I will set it up and check it tonight before I go to bed.

I have cut 0.4 version of reef-pi, this enables the temperature controller (i.e. reef-pi will turn on & offf heater/cooler based on temperature readings) along side some major UI improvements (users get to choose equipments instead of assigning raw gpio numners.

Binaries and packages can be found here: https://github.com/reef-pi/reef-pi/releases/tag/0.4
Sorry for the delay,
I'll be working on auto feeder macro & support for multiple temperature probes next, along side fixing any bugs that might come out
thanks for testing , happy reefing

Just wanted to say thank you for your hard work on this project Ranjib! You have an amazing talent. I've been following for a few weeks and have slowly been getting parts in. I got reef-pi installed and it seems to be mostly working, however I'm getting some "404 page not found" errors. Also just finished building my outlets and relays.

Hello Ranjib, just updated to the new cut and was checking to see if everything runs smooth. from the controller page, i was able to let reef-pi control the relays, I believe when temperature exceeds maximum threshold, cooler gets turned off instead and heater gets turned on. are you seeing the same thing?
Also, on the telemetry, what do i enter for "prefix"

Keep it blank, or specify nothing. It is there to distinguish multiple reef-pi . When specified (example “foo-“) , reef pi will add the prefix on every feed, I.e temperature values will be sent to “foo-temperature” feed at adafruiit.io instead of just “temperature”

Are you using a relay where it’s on normally, and it turns off when we pull it to high side ? That might cause it. Do the equipments behave as expected when you turn them on or off from equipments tab?
Also can you share the logs , it will be easier to debug

not sure what type of relay it is, it's sainsmart 8 channel as far as I know.
I assigned the heater to fans and fans to heater on the control and that seemed to have fixed the issue.

Good morning. If I want to access reef-pi from my phone or disconnect my display and mouse from it (reef pi ) and connect to it from my computer, should I be able to use the same address. 0.0.0.0:8080... or use the ip address assigned by the router? I ask because I cannot do either.

Ssh vnc ip and blue tooth are are enabled.

Please help Ashwinravi first..
