reef-pi :: An opensource reef tank controller based on Raspberry Pi.

I need some advice with plumbing. I am really novice on this.
I am struggling to setup my ro di unit (ro buddie ) in my apartment. The unit uses push connector and standard rodi tubing (ploythelene ?) and ships with connectors to connect it with garden hose (1 inch ?). As well as another connector for hooking it up with faucet .
My apartment has what I think 3/8 connectors. The patio does not have a garden hose like last time , so I don’t have a free 1” hose . My options are to set it up in kitchen or in one of the less used bathroom /vanity . I am thinking of either using a Y connector with valve to intercept an existing junction (like the one next to toilet or vanity ) or have an on demand faucet based connection . I need help with these questions: did i guess the specs right ? The approaches are ok ?
I had a hard time finding y connector with valves that are threaded and 3/8. I had equally hard time removing the aerator from our faucet , it has what I think a coin slot aerator . And I was only able to remove two of the overall 3 components. The last one I could not and get I am not able attach then rodi units connector with that part in place :-(
Suggestions?

I’d install it right after the faucet valve myself. I’m horrible at guessing plumbing sizes but you’re looking at either a 1/4 or 3/8 _compression_ fitting. You’d want a T to split to another two fittings, and assemble from there.

Note that compression threads are a different size than NPT pipe, so adapt accordingly.
Exactly ..Those supply lines are almost always 3/8 and that spigot adapter is either 5/8 -3/4 sometimes 7/8 that is why i suggest taking the pictures and part with him to the hardware store.. its Super easy to have it hard plumbed with much less risk of leaking...

Any reason you need the fitting to have the valve instead of using a 1/4 valve?

Insurance claim waiting to happen. The water needs to disconnect from a threaded metal mechanical part. The water pressure can be as much as 80 psi . these plastic parts, Compression fittings will Leak. I cant wait until plumbing codes catch up and BAN any and all Compression fittings
But until then i will keep making money on repairing the damage they cause when they leak

All of my filter stack sits in the garage. The manifold of my cheap RODI bought back in like 2004 gave out a few years ago - high pressure water jets while I was out traveling are suboptimal. But it’s just unfinished garage drywall in the end, and a dry hot summer limited damage.

When I am in the middle of a Reno project , or just finished thou i do everything i can to avoid any chance of leaks and have never had a major one. I stress over and over to the customer to check for even a tiny Drop of water.. I place a paper towel under all faucets , traps under the sink and tell them one drop of water call me Immediately. My Liability insurance is high enough and the Average home i work in is valued at over million dollars.
Not to mention those quick connect fittings are STUPID Expensive.. I can buy a torch fittings and everything else to do it right for the cost of 3 shark-crap fittings...

This is why i have 90% Customer retention rate .I only loose customers because they find someone cheaper. Which we know is not always a Better Value.

Get one T adapter 3/8 to 3/8 male
get one Shut off valve 3/8 to what ever your ro line adapter is .. i think that is 5/8 (take with you to match up )
1 Short 3/8 to 3/8 Water line .
Turn off the water and Remove that water line. Install the new short 3/8 line .
Install the removed line to the end of the 3/8 t adapter
Install the new valve on the other side of the t adapter..
install your supply line to rodi unit adapter to the out side of the newly installed valve.
You can now turn the Rodi on and off without messing with the sink aerator .

You can also get a Glue on saddle valve for the drain under the sink.

Hope this helps. Those spigot adapters in your image above are a flood waiting to happen from my Experience ..

Nah, its all good. I love reading about this and getting to know stuff like this from all of you. We (software engineers) are pretty bad at most home stuff (elctrical, plumbing etc). I think these are very very useful skills.

Oh how much I wish I had 80psi...I am happy to get over 45.
I agree that hard plumbed fittings are preferred, and I probably worry less on fittings for the RO system since mine is out in my garage.
If the system is left on all the time relying on a solenoid or float valve to turn off the system, and the valve only used for maintenance purposes, is it that different from all of the push-to-connect fittings all over the RO system? You would still have the shut off at the wall for emergency purposes.

This is why i have 4 Bins in the back of my van full of random plumbing stuff.. I almost Never return things under the impression i will use it eventually. For the Record i am NOT a plumber but do lots of Plumbing as part of my Projects. It would just not be cost effective to bring in my Plumber Sub contractor for every tiny plumbing change or issue.
 
Yesterday night I started working on the driver for @Roberto_b ’s ph board. I am very excited about this , and thankful to @Roberto_b . This is the first reef-pi board that address one gap (analog reading/input ) currently we have in supply chain. The atlas scientific counterpart is pretty expensive and uses proprietary code. Although this board was designed for reef-pi , I think other diy projects will be able to use it without any issue. As an added bonus the driver will also unlock the base board (all in one board for pico tanks) ph capability , thanks to @theatrus on keeping the api compatible . I don’t know how this approach will perform yet, as there are several other things that needs to be done right (calibration for example ) , but I’m positive . At least we’ll get a platform to improve upon .

Looks like you have to remove the '#' before dtparam=i2c_arm=on to enable i2c

2nd issue is WLAN related, can you run ifconfig?

For some reason it's not showing the wlan0 interface. What shows: sudo ifdown wlan0 && sudo ifup wlan0 ?
 
For some reason it's not showing the wlan0 interface. What shows: sudo ifdown wlan0 && sudo ifup wlan0 ?
I think he is using lan. Change Config -> Settings -> interface , from wlan0 to eth0 , and reload. reef-pi should be working just fine, even with that issue
 
please help i have reef pi installed and having issues not being able to choose outlet then trying to add equipment-this is my log: Below it is my config.txt
