My 50 gal mixed reef has been limping along for about 8-10 weeks on just T5s, since my RedSea ReefLEDs stopped reliably turning on. I bought a gently used Photon V2+ to replace the ailing ReefLEDs, and instantly happier with color and spread. Since the tank has been pretty dim for awhile, I want to slowly acclimate the corals back up to high PAR. However, since this is the V2+ it uses the remote to program, and I don't want to reset each channel whenever I want to crank up a few percent.

I noticed the "Cloudy" automatic setting defaults to 10% across the channels, and can easily be changed to whatever you want to set each channel to, but will run for 24 hrs and not shut. I already have this on a smart plug, so it's easy to set whatever timer I want. Will turning the Photon V2+ off each night and back on each morning at the power outlet cause any damage? I assume no, but wanted to check this is reasonable. Because if this is fine, I will just increase all the channels 1% every few days (or whatever I decide) and let the timer shut it off at lights out. MUCH easier for acclimation purposes. Is this a good idea??

cheers

I have a 48v2+ with the remote. I don’t use the schedule. I have night mode, cloudy mode, and sunny mode set as presets, I jump between them manually when I walk by the tank, and at night I turn it off. And the next day I turn it on. No issues

Glad to hear this works. And good idea! I’ll do similar to have a heavy blue setting for late night viewing, and whiter for taking photos.

I get good photos using the blue setting with an orange filter clipped on my phone. While the sand and background remain blue, the coral colors are true to life

I do run the blue “cloudy” setting for viewing times.
