Just remember, without RC this hobby would be light years behind where it is today. I'm not a fan of everything that goes on there for sure, but much more good comes out of that site than bad. It has to be a literal nightmare to police a site that big. Especially when you have MAJOR sponsors paying $500 a month minimum to have a banner. More reefers visit that site in an hour than most sites get in a day or two. There is some excellent information in allot of the forums. We may not agree with some of the bannings, etc. that happen (I was banned for over a year by GregT), but I believe the above statements are way off base.

I got in a huge blowout with one or 2 of the mods a while back, and they banned me also...I think it was GregT and Beerguy. I got the last laugh though...I went over their head, and I am back!

If you really want back...drop Reef Junkie a line...he is very close with JohnL or whoever that guy is who started RC
i gues im half and half. I agree with coralnutz and zepplin to some extent, but some people try to give out advice that is just plain stupid sometimes.....

And actually Stix, JohnL didn't start RC, he just owns it now. He bought it from the originator a long time ago. Bet that guy is really kicking himself at how big and profitable it has become.

Yeah, I am pretty sure RJ is the reason I didn't get banned when I started those Protest the CZ Avatar Ban threads... can't remember what exactly I titled them, but I sure remember the one mod telling me he was going to "martyr" me if I didn't shut up...

well thats sort of understandable because he didnt want a bunch of soliciters roaming around RC. Mabey they thought we would take away sponser traffic for them....

Perhaps your right. I may have been a little harsh. It just irks me the way people act someimes. I never would have found the reeftank and thus the TCMAS which I am rather active in. As far as trying to sell frags on RC, I would be foolish not to utilize every resource as my disposal.

figure it this way...is every population there are going to be people acting up. We have a nice small community over here...but over there there are thousands of members...so percentage wise there is more probability of ******s there! All in all I take most of what people say OT(over there) with a grain of salt. There is tons of very useful info and good people who care OT! Without WetWebMedia dn RC I would have been dead in the water to find info when I first got started!
Excellent point, Stix. I has to do with percentages. There are so many more people on RC that there are going to be more PITA's. Some people don't feel good about themselves until they berate a few newbies or try to start an argument just for the sake of starting the argument. We are a more confined and somewhat tight group, so the atmosphere is different. The atmosphere here is to me like the atmosphere in our local club forum on RC (supportive, bantering, and enjoyable). Without RC, we wouldn't likely have a Middle Tennessee Reef Club (or Southeast Tn, North Tn, West Tn, etc. clubs). I tend to think of it as my gateway drug ;) . If you stick to your local clubs, you usually don't have to deal with the 'fun' people as much. It's when you go into the melting pots (the specific forums) that you start to see huge egos.

There are not HALF as many people on tere as you think there are guys.
They dont remove yourname from the members list when they ban you so the list just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
There are a lot of people on there, but not as many as the roster suggests in any way shape or form.
I have been banned probbaly 5-6 times and counting now myself. LOL!!

I agree, especially about WetWebMedia. I STILL go there all the time looking for information. However, I have never been bullied or threatened at WWM.
I guess for me the distinction is that I don't spend regular Laurie time there at RC anymore because I don't feel comfortable there much after the threatening behavior of the mods. I expect percentage wise a bunch of hard to deal with folks in the mix- but I expect mods to behave like adults when needing to shepherd folks that are misbehaving. And in my experience, they are ugly even when NOT shepherding- I've seen them say some really hurtful things to people just out of the blue on a new thread- like Whya are you so stupid?, etc...
Just not people I want to hang out with I guess. It has its uses for sure, but for me they are no longer the #1 website.
