They had mini-colonies of it a year ago. My LFS got them in. They had the Aussie also, in the same long branches that are commonly seen.

I think what they were calling The Ice Fire is an aussie colony they cut up and made frags from I would be suprized if someone had a large enough colony to sell it comercial it does not grow that fast. you could always call and ask if it can be traced back to James Lee's (aquascenes) original colony The coral came in around 2004 and james i belive on distributed a handful of frags

The guy is lying through his teeth. Those corals were recently pulled out of the ocean. Corals just don't grow in that pattern in the aquarium.

If you want these corals buy them from Live Aquaria divers den for 349.99!!

Sure if you like it, that's great, but don't pay tyree prices for a common aussie echinata that the guy got a hold of for $75 wholesale.

I think you could chop off a few eyes of your chalice colonies and take the money and walk into lfs and buy a couple Aussie echinata colonies.

Yeah, I do have a little guy that I grew out from a 1/2" frag, but its about 2" now and it would be nice to have a large colony:) Was thinking about selling or trading my little guy and keeping one of the large colonies instead. The other would be traded for some other chalices that I've been wanting for awhile. I've got more corals than money right now..lol Thanks for the input..

Appreciate the input guys and I spoke with John Dakan who owns my LFS Your Reef and he said the same thing. I'm in his shop a few times a week and I went to him because the Reeffarmers Ice Fire originated out of Sacramento. John actually got it from Sanddollar(Rich) and sold a colony to Karl, who then gave it to Steve Tyree. Actually met Steve about a month ago and he's an interesting guy. Anyways, your discription of the true Ice Fires growth and coloration is accurate and this one is definitely a wild piece. I pm'd Mark Poletti as well who is one of the local reefers here who's been into the lineage scene for awhile and he responded saying that it's absolutelyl 1000% a wild piece with no doubt.

I'm not going to do the trade because I just don't like dealing with dishonest people. However, I am going to ask John to order me a piece because he said those things go for $100-$150 wholesale and he usually hooks me up price wise. I don't expect wholesale prices because he has a business to run and a family to feed, but I could just sell a frag of the Bazooka Joe or BGM and get myself a colony:)

Again, thanks guys for watching my back and the input was very helpful. My gut was telling me it was a con, but I'm one of those people that wants to trust people..lol

I'll post pics of the Wild Aussie colony when I get one:)

Like others have already said, no way that those are the real OG icefire. Its pretty obv that they are just Aussie imports..

Your Bubble gum monster trips me out dude, I still dont think its the BGM, especially looking at it in you FTS. Even tho you have lineage, the seller could have easily mixed them up back in the day when the frags were small.... Yours looks like an amazing OG mummy eye that morphed a super nice red! Its known for doing this sometimes; another reason why i think the OG mummy eye is still one of the nicest chalices around bar none, so much variety with that piece.

I got a piece from occulous like a year ago not sure if it's the real of personally it doesn't have any green it's got a very intense teal metallic color and it's slow growing for sure without a doubt..... There is a good chance it is but who knows mine doesn't have green just pure white with teal tips while my aussie is a Greyish inside with blue tips like the ones in the first post here... My Fiji is white with a hint of green and bright bright real bright blue tips with white polyps it's a super sweet piece!!!!! Hth

Yeah, that chalice is crazy looking and it changes in the center from bright pink to yellow with gold specs to green depending on lighting and what I feed it...lol I bought it several months ago in a chalice collection and the guy showed me a few receipts of his other corals with lineage. I asked him the same thing, but he said he got it from YR which I could believe since the store is literally 10 minutes from where I picked up the corals. I've seen one other BGM that morphed with a little pink, but nothing like this colony. That and the eyes are huge in the center of the colony with some a little smaller than a dime, but the eyes get smaller from the newer growth and the color changes to the more traditional green. It's weird because I fragged up half the colony and did some trades with a friend of mine and his wife said they didn't look like BGM either (My buddy's color blind..lol) He still has a mini colony of it and it looks like his other BGM, but with bigger eyes. Who knows it could just have morphed or got mixed up in a shipment, accidently sold as a BGM from a unknowing employee who mis-identified it. Maybe I'll ask John to send the colony to Tyree and have it named the Chameleon Bubblegum Rainbow Party Mummy Eye chalice and then I could get a fair trade for it:) Good looking out brother. Glad I've got a bunch of fellow reefers watching my back:)
