Reefing vs. Marriage

Some of you guys make me feel like a newlywed!

Just celebrated our 12th anniversary and couldn't be happier. We haven't argued in 10 years and our biggest complaint is that we wish we had even more time to spend together. I'm a lucky guy!

You and your husband are part of the 25% of the marrages that work (aprox), 50% of all marrages end in divorce, and the final 25% (I know very round numbers) are couples who feel stuck in the relationship for whatever reasons and are either unable or unwilling to get a divorce.

Not very good odds on a marrage working out in the long term.

I started a reef tank again because I wanted to, I do not need to discuss my decision with anyone except myself. If the Lady I am with dose not like my decision(s) about anything she is welcome to move on to someone else.

Selfesh some might think? That is why I am and always have been single, if the Lady I am with complains she is welcome to leave and I will find another, there is always another Lady.

What hobbies I enjoy and activities I take up are for my personal enjoyment, if a Lady happens to enjoy what I am doing then she is more than welcome to enjoy it as well, if not she has no right to complain. When I want to tak off for a week or two to someplace exotic I will ask if the Lady I am seeing would like to come along, I will make reasonable accomidations according to her schedule and always cover any and all expenses because she is my guest.

There is no reason for marrage unless the couple would like to have children.

But I have also been all over the world and dived the Great Barrier Reef. (she many times dives with me) I fought in a war and went out with some fantastic ladies. I am in great shape but I realize in a few years I may not be and I will have always someone to complain to. :rolleyes:
As for my tank, My wife has never in all the years we have been married said anything about me spending money, but I realize, many Women will. Of course I don't know how many pairs of shoes my wife has either, and I don't care. If we run out of money we will eat cake. :p

Marriage is by far easier. If I neglect my wife she won't die!!

Married 39, fish keeping 35, so tanks have always been around. Her dad also kept/bred fish. Still cheaper than my bikes or vintage guitars.

my better half loves the tank and has offerd to help on numerous ocassions as long as she doesn't have to clean the glass, do a water change, dose, feed, remove anything dead/dying or testing. Anthing else and she is there ready to help at a moments notice.....

Im not married ..( tried it once , didnt agree with me ) but i do have a girlfriend who appreciates and understands that I need a hobby , she was against it at first and thought we'd just end up with this horrible algae infested green glass box in the room , luckily for me , she adores the tank and corals , and readily helps out with looking after the tank when I work away .. I just make sure I buy her a present every now and again so she doesn't think I spend all my money on the tank ...

I was thinking to myself what's left! Lol. But...there's an appreciation of the reef. That's all that matters. If they like the corals....you know they'll like the nice ($$$$) ones.

I have some good advice on how to put first things first. When you come home after work, kiss your spouse and kids and express your love to them and then go to stare at the tank.

I never realized how much time can pass while looking at or working on your reef tank, so I never understood the jokes people made about spousal issues. Now I understand ... lol But I've always found, if your partner's hobby is taking up more time than you're willing to give up, then join him/her. You never know, you might just like it too. This has proved true for me time and time again.

When I think "escape", I think of the Exuma Islands in the Caribbean with a beautiful Lady on a deserted island with pink sand beaches. Fresh Lobster, chilled wine and .....

I agree with that. When I escape, I take a beautiful lady (who is my wife) to exotic Islands like Tahiti.
I sail one of these to get to the only bar on Bora Bora.





Then she thanks me for months and goes out and buys me a coral. :D
