I have a Redsea Reefer 425 g2+. I'm thinking about running a reefmat. I tend to stalk my tank a bit heavy. I know the 500 will fit. I was thinking of running a 1200 if it fits in hopes of getting a bit more life out of my rolls. Is anyone rocking a 1200 in a 425 g2+ or a similar size tank, if so, how is it working out for you?

What are the dimensions of your tank?
I have one in a CADE 1200 which is 47” long and listed as 135 gallons. It works great.
I’d say if you can fit it in the sump, go for it. Especially if you tend to stock heavily

Buy the biggest one that'll fit in your space. I haven't ran the numbers on filter area vs cost, but I suspect that the money saved on rolls will cover the price difference between the two within the life of the product.

Plus you won't end up flow limited, and you can pass 100% of your return water through it.

I had a 500 on my 125 for about 8 months. I ran through about 30"-50" a day. Switched to a 1200 and it went to below 15" a day at the most ( like after cleaning). Rolls started lasting me 3-4 months, instead of a month with the 500.

47" long probably slightly different from yours. My total system volume is 113gal I think. My biggest concern is if the 1200 will even fit.

Yeah that’s the thing. Maybe post a pic of your sump. Of course we wouldn’t be able to see if it will fit but it’ll give an idea of what you’re dealing with

Looks like the 1200 is not compatible with the RS 425 - here's a chart from the RS website. 1st column is the RM 250, then 500 then 1200

Yeah, I emailed Redsea before I made this post. I wasn't expecting to hear from them until at least tomorrow, but they just replied. They said it will fit in a Reefer 425 g2+, but it's just not recommended for whatever reasoning. Then they gave me a link to the specs.

I would love to do the triton method, but they never seem to have any of the chemicals in stock.
Not sure what you meant by "triton method". My reefs are "simple" and automated: oversized skimmer, calcium reactor (for alk/ca), carbon dosing (for nitrate), and lanthanum chloride (for phosphate). I'm lazy and I hate cleaning so the less I do, the better.

One of my local reefer friend has a 1200 and he absolutely loves it!

Triton method uses an oversized refugium, and you dose all major and minor elements. No water changes!
Got it -- I don't do any WCs on all my 3 tanks. In fact, my 150gal SPS tank hasn't had a WC for 4.5years now. I'll resort to WC if there's an emergency or a big problem that I couldn't fix with dosing.
