No more filter socks! Installed a ReefMat 500 today. Had to do some mods to the sump to make room but everything went pretty smooth. Looking forward to ditching the socks!

I recently bought a used 500 from another forum member, and as soon as USPS delivers a new hose (four days late and counting) I look forward to hooking it up. I spent around four weeks with socks before deciding I was out.

Is that system new? I only ask as it looks wicked clean. If it is your first roller and it’s. New system, just be careful you don’t strip too much out. For example, I only use my rollers a portion of the day, I also shut them down when PH > 8.4. I too love rollers. But, they can take too much out also.

Why shut them down when ph > 8.4 ?

Wow only 4 weeks?! I’m 7 months in and finally gave in. I don’t mine cleaning them too much as I just throw them in the washer with a little bleach. What bugs me is how the ATO starts going crazy when the socks get clogged. Every 2 or 3 days, back in the same cycle. Let me know how you like your ReefMat.

It’s about 7 months old. It’s so clean because I cleaned the skimmer and first chamber today when I installed the ReefMat. Thanks for the tip!

I love my Reef Mat 500.

The auto advance feature on the Reef Mat seems to work quite well. It only advances when the Reef Mat fills up indicating that the mat is clogged. Not sure why one would ever turn it off that feature.

I’m lazy and impatient.
