reefmat nano freshwater?

Curious if anyone has tried to adapt one of these for Freshwater. I spliced in float sensors on my 500 unit in my large tank sump, but space on this is a bit limited when used in an AIO and wondering if anyone has found a work around with maybe an optic sensor or similar that would fit.
