Wow I have been using a hydrometer for about 7 months and I just picked up a refractometer today. All I can say is I love it. Very easy to use and now I’m confident with my salinity. My hydrometer was reading 1.025, after calibrating the refractometer it was reading my salinity as 1.030. Glad I spent the money to go with one. Now it’s time to slowly lower salinity to 1.025

Calibrate it before EACH AND EVERY use. My sister works in the gourmet coffee industry and they use refractometers there as well.

They have a habit of coming out of calibration randomly so it's best to keep it calibrated every time you use it.

Well, since you're reading around 1.025, you want a calibration nearest that as to ensure it's accurate and not off. This is why you should use a 35ppt calibration fluid.
Can it be calibrated by ro water?
