The aquarium I started four years ago was wonderful while I was there, but alas I moved away from home and things went downhill. My father became paralyzed so he wasn't able to keep it up and my mom has worked full time to support both of them.
I got back to their house and there was about 1/2 inch of just..... nasty goo type stuff on the bottom of the aquarium sand bed. They use a AquaClear type filter which does decent but there isnt any flow in there at all to help remove crap from the bottom.
So, my goal with this project was to make a simple setup that is low maintenance and less splashing because they've been having a lot of problems with water splash.
Materials:
Purigen, Miracle Mud, 2 10g aquariums *i put my hand through the glass of one*, Chemi-Pure, filter floss, 2 Black Cherry sams choice fizzy waters, powerhead, air pump, two airstones, old sump, 2 ball valves + 4 nipples, Lifegard Aquatics Customflo Starter Kit.
So what I've done to help out so far is.......
I found a 10g aquarium I had laying around and a sump I used on my 90g aquarium a long time ago.
I cut the acrylic of the sump and created partitions to use for the 10g aquarium. Thus began my process!
Two bottles of walmart black cherry fizzy water and an air pump + stones created the "2$" skimmer.
Miracle mud in the main chamber *need to add more to it*, Purigen is in the AC which is hanging off the sump and running through the main chamber. The skimmer is in the first "chamber" and it overflows into the third chamber where chemipure and filter floss is.
Its my first DIY Sump, and theres definately things I would have done differently but it is a good learning experience. Sorry that it looks somewhat bad.

Glass cover
Possibly a T5 lighting system or MH's for the tank
A Koralia Powerhead for more flow to the bottom of the aquarium

I understand the tank still looks somewhat perturbing, but it definately is much better than when I got back.
