So I just happened to be looking at reviews of the return pump and skimmer feed pumps I purchased for my 180. They are the Octopus Water Blaster 3000 & 7000. I noticed some folks were saying they had some seize up issues after owning them for a while. The manufacturer recommended regular vinegar baths for the pumps. It never occurred to me that I should regularly soak my pumps in vinegar to keep them running right. Made me wonder what else I should be doing that I am not.

Also, makes me want to buy a spare pump to make maintenance easier.

I just recently pulled my return pump offline after it has been running for about 8 months, and gave it a good vinegar bath. I removed a lot of sponges and worms off of it. I can honestly say it helped. the water in my return area was very still, and what little detritus that was in the return section was now showing movement. I could see little vortexes and movement after the thorough cleaning.

Clean your pumps, powerheads, heaters and anything else you can remove that is inside your tank. One reason I also use regular hose for drains and returns. U can take them off and soak and clean. All your pipes will get a buildup inside that also restricts flow.
