Removing Nem from rock

i always point the powerhead on them and use my finder to gently rub their foot loose

no, do not zip tie them.

i have a chipping hammer. i just pull the rock, chip at the rock beside the nem being careful not to hit one. once you get a piece under the foot broke loose, the rest usually peels up nicely. i literally removed 22 bta's from pourous rock the other day with a hammer in about 20 min. one of them sustained a little foot tear and split the next day. no biggie :)

zip tie sounds like it might work in some cases. it would not work if the rock was pourous and the nem had it's foot deep into a hole. that's when i break out the hammer. lol

That is a good method. You can also suspend the rock out of water so the nem has to let go to get back in the water. It sounds harsh but it works when they are really deep in the rock. However, the above method is recommended first.
