Repairing Glass Tank

So I acquired this tank recently and am planning to use it for an upgrade. Tank measures 36”x18”x16”. Upon getting it home I found a chip in the front right corner. The chip is sizable and, as is, is not safe to use. So, my question is, are there any options for repairing or just replace the front panel?

I was wondering if I’d be able to brace the interior where the chip is with some additional glass pieces. Not sure if this really helps me at all though.

Did some calling around and I can get a replacement glass front panel for about $115, which would still be a more cost effective option than purchasing a new tank.

Any thoughts on potentially repairing this? My gut says replace the panel or get a new tank, but I don’t have much knowledge in glass engineering so figured I’d ask.

I wish I knew. If it were me, I’d get a new tank. I’d worry about it forever if I tried to repair it. Then again, I worry about EVERYTHING! Someone will come along and help though. Good luck!

I would go with your gut. The tank is repairable, but if you repair it will you sleep at night ? If I repaired it I would chose to put in a new front panel. That means stripping the tank down. Its a lot of work.

Ya I’m not too concerned with replacing a panel. It’s. But tedious but not bad, I’ve done it before. Little labor of love but relatively simple.

I just wasn’t sure if I had any repair options open to me before I proceeded. I’m in no rush so I’ll keep open for more tanks, but I’ve had a heck of a time finding these dimensions aside from going custom.

I essentially got this tank for free. So the cost of a new front panel is still substantially more economical than the $400-600 it’d likely be for something new.
