Hey all,

Setup / Context:
I've got a 15g reef cube that's been running since September. I used CaribSea dry rock in the display and added Gulf Live Rock rubble in the refugium to help seed everything. The tank is coming along nicely and I'm happy with the progress so far. I recently beat cyano without chemicals, and the remaining dinos are fading away. I'm also finally starting to see little spots of coralline on the glass. I only have a few hardy corals and two clownfish but all are growing and doing well.

I'm also in college, so I've already had to move the tank twice and will have to move it again this summer. It's annoying to transport but the tank is small enough that it is doable.

I really like the Gulf Live Rock rubble I added, and honestly I'm just not a huge fan of the CaribSea dry rock in the display. If I could do it again, I would have just used all live rock.

My Question:
I'm now wondering if I could swap my existing CaribSea rock out with new Gulf Live Rock. To take it one step further, instead of a full rockscape, could I just pick out one large, ncie piece of live rock and make that the entire display structure? It would simplify things for me and make tank moves way easier in the future.

I know there's risks with disturbing the established rockwork, so I'm curious what people think about this idea? Is it too crazy?

EDIT: And if not gulf live rock, than some other cured live rock from a LFS. I just need to be able to hand select it for measurements, aesthetic, etc etc

I would say you could change out the CarbSea for live rock. As long as the live rock doesn't need to be cured in any way and can be placed right into a working tank.

As to just having one large rock, I guess it would depend. If the clowns are ok with it, should work out.

If your corals are growing anything like my 375 gallons I can’t even see much rocks at all. So does it matter what kind since your tank is already established
