Hi all,

These may be a lost cause, but I'm going to do everything I can to get them back to life.

I picked up two bleached coral that looked rough, and I need some help IDing them to make sure I get their PAR needs, flow, food, etc right.

Let me know what you think! Edit: (Sorry for potato quality photos!!) 20250318_212607.jpg 20250318_212940.jpg

Bad photos are okay if you use white lights.

Uh it’s a Goniopora and Goniastrea. You could try the KFC dip method and see if it’ll help. It’s brought back corals with barely any tissue.

The Goniopora looks like it still have 2 intact polyps

If you still have polyps on a Goniopora. I wouldn’t give up. I had a colony just completely turn into brown slime, you couldn’t even see the tissue under the ball of slime.
And it bounced back with the KFC dip method
I don’t have a photo but another Goniopora same time had only 5 polyps remaining and it recovered as well and now tripled in tissue

Here’s the protocol paper.

Awesome, I'll google the kyc dip method. This is exactly what I was hoping to find out.

Thanks yall!

The important part is having your parameters stable!!

I got a new coral from a frag swap and that coral bjd overnight and spread to some of my Gonioporas I had near by. So they got infected. So as long as your tank is coral friendly it’ll work! Out of the 5 that had symptoms only that new coral died. Important to qt ! It was my frag tank so my mistake.

Well, the goni does not appear to have made it through the kyc. Had 2 polyps hanging on, but it looks like they are gone now.

The other one (*atrea) seems to be doing well though!

As a followup, i got this mystery plug as well this week.

Definitely an lps, and ive seen a few polyps peek out, but anyone have an idea on exact species?
