One of my BTA’s has managed to land itself on the back of the HOB overflow. It’s been there almost a week now and doesn’t seem to know how to get off it or to the front.

Should I rescue it or will it work it out on its own?

it should work it out on its own. only concern I have is if it does release that close to the filter it could be sucked up /stuck to the intake to the filter.

I personally have moved my RBTAs when they "stopped" in an area that I didn't like. I would give it another day or two and I would try and move it to a location you want or at least a location that you can see it
