Hey guys just finished resealing my 25 year old 110 gallon tank i think I did a pretty good job its the second shot at it first time I used to much silicone and I decided I could do better and redid it my new wooden stand is almost complete that I'm building I'm hoping to be cycling by Christmas

Looks great! I would paint the back black before installing the overflow box.

If you have a refugium under the tank painting bottom is not a bad idea if you are using sand. @Crabs McJones would be able to explain better than i can.

Yes, absolutely absolutely paint the bottom of the tank if your stand isn't going to have a solid top on it leaving the underside visible. If you run a fuge, the light will reflect up to the underside of the tank and your sandbed will grow a bunch of nastiness. I learned this the hard way.

What kind of nastiness did you experience? I have been getting what I believe is hair algae growing on my sand bed even though I don't see any on my rockscape. I have a fuge under my tank and didn't paint the underside. I'm wondering if this is the reason or not. My sand bed is roughly 2 inches thick.

Oh wow that's really good info thanks but i will be putting the tank on solid 3/4 inch ply wood and painting the stand black

Then no worries, as long as the fuge light cannot reach the underside of the tank you'll be good :)

Is the inside of the stand painted or sealed? With the sump down there it's going to get alot of moisture.

Now what's the best product or products to seal the stand with or we talking same products as deck seal or something specific?
