Basement sump with roughly 15-16' head. looking at things, i don't think the dc pumps have enough head to handle my setup. was think iwaki md-40rxt? md-55rlt? please help with some suggestions

How big is the display? Or how many gph are you looking for?

The style of pump that you have is the *best* for your application. So I would run the one you have, or maybe a slightly more powerful model, like the Pan World 200PS, if you need more flow. Iwaki is the same thing, basically, but I'm not sure the models you listed can give you enough flow.

the display is 65 gallons. I'm looking for about 500-600gph at the tank. the panworld i have now isn't working correctly. about 3 weeks ago the flow dropped to a mere trickle at the display and it's old so i was going to replace it.

I think the panworld 200PS or the BlueLine 70HD is what you're looking for.

See flow curves attached. Flow is in GPM so you want about 10GPM=600 gph: https://www.aquacave.com/Manuals/BlueLine-PumpCurves.gif

BRS just recommended the
Utility Hammerhead/Barracuda Hybrid Pump

concerned it is REAL overkill??

Whoa. For a 65 gallon tank at 15 feet of head? Seems like overkill to me too, but I don't have experience with that brand.

If you wanted to go Iwaki from BRS, then the MD70 would probably do it.

Anyone else have an opinion here?

i do have plans i'm finalizing to upgrade to a 180 but im not there just yet. maybe that's why they shot big as i could throttle back the hammerhead until my upgrade is in place.

Jebao 20000 lph has the labeled 31 feet head height.
I use it to return water 20 feet upwards and run two media canisters and a UV.
Running 60% so more room is available.

I've had a lot of success with the lifeguard aquatics pumps, where I've lost several more expensive pumps. They're simple and less controllable, but they get the job done :)
