So my wife and I were in the hobby roughly 15 years ago, we had a 150 gallon Tall Marineland tank. We absolutely loved the hobby, although the plethora of information wasn’t what it is today. We were pretty much winging it, canister filter and all. Lol

Well life happens and my wife was expecting our second child, a blessing, so of course we did made the logical choice and we put our hobby to the side. Well fast forward 15 years later, we are finally in a place to start the hobby up again.

Ok, now that I’m approaching 50, ugh, and have a little more wisdom, just a little, I decided I’m going to research, research and more research before jumping into it again. So after scouring the internet and spending many hours reading and watching videos we pulled the trigger 6 months ago.

We bought the Fluval 32.5 Flex AIO modified with a HOB refugium. I love the tank, despise the lid, however, I have dogs so I’m stuck with it. Well as research has shown the smaller the tank the harder it is to maintain, but we didn’t want to go as big as before. Well my kids are getting into the hobby and want this fish or that fish etc… and I tell them unfortunately we are limited in our choices and number of fish because of the tank size. So here I am refurbishing a 150 gallon Tall Aquarium Masters tank so my kids have better options fish, that way hopefully their interest remains in the hobby.

Here are a few pictures of my 32.5 gallon and progress pictures of my new tank

First of all thank you, it is much appreciated. I only have four fish in my tank at the moment. I was going to add some more but decided against it after the decision was made to go to the 150 gallon tank. The fish currently in my tank are a Clown Fish, Mandarin Goby, Yashi Goby and a Six Line Wrasse. As far as my inverts go some snails and hermits. A Tiger Pistol Shrimp, Harlequin Shrimp and a Fire Shrimp. I haven’t really done anything special, other than add the Hang on the Back refugium to help with nutrient control and a place to cultivate copepods for the Mandarin. Other than that weekly water testing and a 15% water change every week as well. I dose calcium and magnesium for the corals. When I feed the corals I add aminos and only feed them every three days. I guess the main thing is I keep a close eye on things so I can catch issues before they come up or get bad.

I had not thought of a hang on refugium,
