I’m hoping I could get some help understanding RO/DI systems. I am on city water, but have no idea if they use chloramines. It was recommended to me to get the 5 stage from the online chat function on BRS, however, I’m unsure how/why they came up with that solution.

I guess my question is what’s the difference between the 5,6 or 7 stage? Is it better to get the 7 or is it overkill and the 5 is perfectly fine since that was recommended to me (they only asked if I was on city water). I’m hoping to buy a unit ASAP and just want to make sure I make the right decision. Thanks!

You need to check with your local municipal water supply to see if they use chlorine or chloramines.

Agree with Water Dog. Call your water department and ask if they use chlorine or chloramine. If chlorine, you can probably get away with less stages unless you have high TDS in your water. Many RODI systems have the ability to add stages later if it turns out less stages is quickly burning through the media.

I think the important things to know

What is the quality of your source water? TDS, disinfectant type
What is the pressure of your source water?
How much and how fast do you want to make water?
