RO DI Resin

Spectrapure is out of all their resins right now. So I have a simple question. I have a five stage. Sediment, Carbon, Membrane, two DI. On the two DI, can the first DI bed be cation with like two inches of mixed bed at the bottom, then the second DI bed be mixed bed with two inches of anion at the bottom. Is that dumb?

Or should I just run them completely separate and forget the mixed bed.

You can mix and match your own resins. I still have Spectrapure resin in stock. They are a 10 minute drive from our warehouse and I have an order pending and they say it could be a month or more before they have more resin for me but at the moment the Silica Buster and MaxCap are available.

If your water is like mine then you will use way less cation than anion. I would not do a whole canister of cation for the first. I would do a whole canister of anion. For the second canister I would do cation on the bottom for maybe 1/3 then mixed bed on top. That way you can scoop out the mixed bed as the anion gets depleted in it and replace. Once the full cation section on the bottom is changed color then redo the second canister completely.

You will be able to use up the first full anion canister nearly completely if you don't mind changing the mixed bed on top of the second more often. Or just replace the full anion when you start to see some color change on the mixed bed.

Alternative would be maybe 1/3 full cation then 2/3 anion in canister 1 and full mixed bed canister 2.

I run cation and anion in separate canisters. For whatever reason my water burns through anion quite fast, so mixed resin was just a waste. I am considering adding one more stage at the end for a mixed resin water polishing... but have yet to bother.

So I bought another stage. I have cation in the first, then anion, then a mixed bed as the very last stage. Our water is so ridiculously good here, I won't name names, many people in my city are using tap. I KNOW! But I just have to be extra.

I have created a new problem. When loading the canisters I stunk up the house. It legit smells like a fish farm. All the resin packaging was thrown away and removed from the house. I have wiped up every little spill. Sprayed down the counters, ran water down the drains. Washed the rag I used. I am at a loss of HOW it can still stink and how to remove the smell from the house. It's been three freaking days. This can't be normal, I mean I know this stuff stinks but still? what the heck???
